Default Damaged K-22

I went to an auction today for the sole purpose of checking out a 6 in bbl. K Frame .22 which was listed. Got there and it looked like it had acne but more over the hammer spur was broken off and the latch acted like it was welded with no movement at all. Is there any value left in a gun like this? Could a person be able to make a gun like this into a cheap shooter or plinking peice?

Sure you could, if the latch is not actually welded. If I could get it at a cheap price I'd grab it.

Bamabiker is right, but the operative work is cheap. My bet is that the whole mechanism is probably frozen with rust (the same thing that caused the "acne"). The hammer spur probably broke when somebody tried to cock that gun with a frozen action. So, buying it would be a gamble (the risk of buying a paperweight).

Is there any way to check the bore?

I don't know what cheap is to Bamabiker, but I'd be thinking no more than $125 with plans to put about twice that into fixing it. Bamabiker though probably has a better feel for it.

Well it's kind of hard to say much without seeing it but if it's rusted up badly it would have to be real cheap to even take a chance on it.

It was sold with a Taurus .22 also with a broken hammer but it at least opened. I saw both on the sold table as I was leaving. The taurus also had quite a bit of rust. Maybe they were someones boat guns. Fairbanks is pretty dry we don't rust bad here.
