Default First Year production Model 57...

Left the factory Dec 2, 1964...shipped to Dallas Texas
Fantastic condition for a 48 year old Smith.
Someone added the Gold "McGivern" front sight.
Best stocks I've seen in awhile.

That is one sweet 57. It's in a super caliber as well.

Did you find that locally? I have a buddy that retired from a local gun shop that had one just like it....man, that thing shot like a laser beam.

Very nice

One sweet 57. Gotta love a .41 mag. Great score on a rare 57 in that condition for it's age. I've never seen a 1964 model 57 in person and would love to fondle your handsome fella.

Congrats and may your collection grow!

I have 5 .41's now and am done with my collection of them as I've covered every barrel length and have a 58 to round it out. Can't afford every finish but I'm happy with the ones I have.

Beautiful! I have one that is of slightly less quality with the box and paperwork. I'm not sure what year mine was produced, but the finish is beautiful.

That is a beautiful gun congrats, just to slide a bit off topic would any one know of a specific reason a 57 would misfire when temp is below freezing? I have had it checked and rechecked by different g-smiths, all the obvious has been done, gun smith says it checks out spec wise, I have to take there word because I don't have a demensionl schematic to double check, when its warm shoots perfect come cold weather misfires any thoughts well be welcomed

I'm curious if these are handloads you are talking about. The ball powders often used for magnum loads (think H110/W296) have a reputation for being hard to ignite in cold weather. Were magnum primers used?

This is the part that got it all started, first time was a handload so thinking that may be the problem I tried factory loads remington winchester, lite loads heavy loads you name it I tried it same result. I had one gun smith tell me this was common with 57 's and that is what I am trying to confirm, so far I am the only one

I owned and shot a Model 29 and a Model 57 when I lived in Missoula, MT in the early 70s. I carried them in the winter when the temperature ranged from 40 F to minus 20 F and never experienced an ignition problem with Remington factory loads (210 grain JSP in the 57 and 240 JSP in the 29).
