Default Model 15 at the gun show

Came across a Model 15 (think it was a -4). Not bad shape, a little pitting on the side of the muzzle but would be a good shooter.

What puzzles me are the grips. It had magnas but they didn't fit right. They seemed to bee too small, there was 1/16" of frame sticking out past the grips in the fore and aft plane. Did this on both sides. Any ideas?

Asking price was $385 plus tax, I passed.

The only thing I can think of is that those stocks came from a Model 12, -1,-2 or -3.

There was .80 difference in the size of the frame until the 12-4

With the 12-4, the stock would interchange with the standard K frames. Prior to that, they would not.

Just a WAG on my part.

I think it had a set of grips that were not standard as I've changed grips between a lot of K frames revolvers and they usually match up very close with no noticable gaps.

Grips could have been sanded down on a re-finish?

I recently bought a set of magnas for a Model 10 via the internet. These are in excellent shape as advertised, but from what I am reading here, they are more than likely for an early Model 12. They are a bit small all the way around, and are about 1/4" short at the point at the top.

Like so many threads here, this one provided me some real help from folks who know their stuff.

Thanks folks -- Time to hit the Classifieds --
