Default Transition from football to cutouts

I recently acquired a LNIB 15-3 with the original box from a forum member dated around 1973 (Thanks Chuck!!). I took off the grips and they have 357 imprinted on them in what appears to be a black stamp. I have a 19-3 dated 1980 and it has cutout grips on it and I like the look and feel of the 15-3 football grips better. Could my model 19-3 SN# 59K0*** have came out with the football grips? I would like to put them it but I would also like them to look original to the gun.

Also I have a 14-2 dated 1964 and they have the cutout grips on it. When I took the grips off of this gun they were dated Feb 5 1987, the date appears to be stamped in black ink. What would be the correct grips for this gun?

19-4

15-3

14-2

No expert here but I believe the footballs were gone on the K frames before 1980, the N frames were a little later than the Ks.

The 14-2 most likely came with Magna stocks that had un-checkered diamonds around the grip screw escutcheons. Target grips of the period would also have diamonds.

The 19-3 came from the factory with target stocks, but they probably wouldn't have had the speedloader cut like those.

The 15-3 likely came with non-diamond Magna stocks, but the target stocks on it are period correct. The box label will tell you what type of stocks it came with. If the label is not marked "T", take the grips off and put them on the 19-3.
