Default Wobble in ejector rod on my beloved 28-2.

I have replaced the ejector rod and pin and still have a wobble. The extractor half of the assembly seems to be bent. Is there any tricks to getting it straight, or is a replacement available? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry nobody has responded to your post before now. The problem you have is fairly common and is a relatively simple fix. First you have to check the crane/yoke alignment. Once that has been verified, the extractor rod is checked using a dial indicator to check for runout. The rod is bent based on the runout. However, if you don't have the tools to accomplish your goal, it is probably less expensive to take it to a gunsmith or have the factory do the work. The tools are available from Brownell's but are not cheap. I hope this answers your question and I wish you the best of luck in getting your 28-2 shooting satisfactorily again.

You can do it yourself. Open the yoke/cylinder and lay the gun down on a flat surface. Take a wedge shaped piece of wood and slip it between the extractor rod and the frame, so there is just a little clearance between the wood and rod. Rotate the cylinder to find the high side of the runout, and then turn the cylinder 180 degrees so that the high side of the runout on the rod is facing up. Take a plastic mallet, or a heavy piece of lead and strike the rod with light to moderate force. Check the runout on the rod again and see if it straightened out. If not repeat until it does. This is an armorer's trick to getting the rod straight.
