Wouldn't that just be a 4" 617? I realize that the 617 has the heavier underlug barrel, but it is basically a stainless-steel 4" K in .22.

No it wouldn't. We are talking about the sleek lines of the tapered barrel, narrow rib lines of the early 67s, and the 18. That would be an ideal K-22. The 617 has no resemblance to a 67 or 18.

Thought I'd revive this one.

In the late 80s I bought my first S&W, a 686-1 6", and I still have that one. About 8 years ago a friend gave me a nickel Model 10 because he could no longer shoot and he felt the gun was more of a liability to him in his condition. That M10 started me on K frames. A few K frames later, including another M10 and a 14-4, and I just bought a 67 no dash that I pick up tomorrow- we have a 3 day wait. It looks like it was shot a little and put in the proverbial nightstand drawer. The lock up is great-like a new gun. It still has its stainless steel sights and magnas. The SN is 3k81xxx which I think puts it at a first year gun. I'll post photos after I pick it up.

I've been busy with a few obligations. Here is my new to me 67 no dash. The stocks are numbered to the gun:

What's not to like. My no dash 67 is a favorite. Interestingly enough, it is the tightest S&W revolver I own.

One of my favorite Smith and Wessons! I had my tired, old cop's gun re-done. She had her sharp edges worn smooth by many, many presentations from the holster.

The S&W emblems were worn away. I had her front sight changed out for a new Trijicon unit, as well as her hammer and trigger polished and radiused for fast DA work.

I did the action job on her by stoning/polishing the rebound slide and changing the rebound spring to a 14 lbs unit. Perfect (and smooth) 9 lbs DA pull. I don't do SA, so it doesn't matter.

The gun shoots perfectly with my SD/HD load of the R-P 125gr Golden Saber +P BJHP. It's moving at approx. 1000 fps and is damn good Felon Repellent.

The grips are Ahrends Retro Combats in Bocote (Cordia). They feel as good as they look.

My rendition of the 'modern' Combat Masterpiece...

gtoppcop,
That 67 is stunning. Obviously it shoots as good as it looks. Can't ask for more than that. Wise choice on the sights also.

[QUOTE=gtoppcop;138658534].....
I had her front sight changed out for a new Trijicon unit, /QUOTE]

Did S&W remove the FS and mill in the channel for the replacement front site?
If so did they have to remove the barrel ?
Also how long ago was it done and do you know what they charge ?

I want to do this mod to one of my Smiths .

49 Guy,

I actually sent the stripped gun to Chris McVety at Amerigun in North Branch, MI. Chris and his Team of artisans milled off the front sight (if the sight was originally pinned all the better) and milled a Woodruff cut into the Baughman ramp. they fit a Trijicon front sight (or will make one) with a Tritium insert and pin the affair into the Baughman ramp.

I've had them do quite a few revolvers for me. Their work is first rate. I can't recommend them enough.

Hope this helps!

The shop also has a mod 15 but condition and price aren't matched in my opinion. I also like to blue.

Red ramp front, blued rear sights...nice compliment to the stainless, looks great.

Smooth combat trigger...very comfortable.
4" barrel...perfect for packing and hiking.

This is definitely a keeper. Any comments?
that's a great weekend shooter and it looks good hope you have as much fun as I g et as much fun out of it as I do

Jerrywayne,

Prices seem to be all over the place. $350 to $650 is what I have seen lately. The nice thing about them is that they are usually found in high condition as far as the finish goes. If there is a bit of cosmetic wear and tear visible, some elbow grease with a good polishing compound brings 'em right back to new.

I don't see them often. I just picked up a -1 in very good condition, tightest revolver I've owned (that's saying something). No box/papers, Hogue rubber grips (quickly replaced)...I paid $400 and would buy them all day at that price.

I just got one off gunbroker for $525.00. From the pics it seems very little used. Just sent the check yesterday, so won't have it for a week or so.

This is the one I just picked up. Going out to shoot for the first time today. Crazy tight gun...mentioned above $400 with rubber grips. I've replaced those. Not a great pic, and upside down to boot since posting from my phone, but you'll get the idea.

I handed a 67-1 to the gunsmith yesterday.
Action job and fibre optic front sight so the safe queens out there will be worth a smidgen more, but I have a little plan to compare K, L, N, and Colt for IDPA shooting.

I like my 67-0 for all the same reasons given over the years...
and it looks classic in vintage leather...

Sorry I'm late to the party...here is my 67, from 1972. It has a smooth action, and a very tight lock-up. I really enjoy shooting with it. The snake didn't care so much for it though.

Exactly! I have SIGs and Glocks but if you really want to hit something in a precise fashion a M-15 is hard to beat. I sometimes wonder if these semi autos are really much in the way of progress.

I am a fan of the 67, although I have never shot one I have a 15 that is fantastic. I finally landed a 67 and will pick it up as early as tomorrow afternoon but more likely on Saturday. Will post pics shortly after pick-up.

Well, I could not wait until Saturday. Left work early to pick this up. It came with beat up grips, so I replaced them with a set I just bought from another forum that arrived today, as well Any Model 67 fans out there?

I acquired this Model 67-1 from the estate of a 100-year-old neighbor who bought it as a house gun and never fired it. Vintage of April 1978. It's in perfect condition - required only a lube job.

I bought mine a few years ago from a fellow who had polished it (I'm not a fan of stainless steel guns that look like a 1950s car bumper) with no stocks for $300. I spent $115 with my gunsmith having the brushed stainless finish restored and the action cleaned and lubricated while it was apart and added a set of my checkered target stocks. I also obtained a like-new set of the correct square-bottom Magnas for it.

I haven't shot it as I have a lot of other K-frames that aren't as unique as these older guns with stainless sights.
