Storing guns in presentation box ?
Has anyone ever had the blue liner bleed through into the metal or grips. Was talking to a S&W collector at a gun show, he told me it happened to him in the summer when his goldenrod went out. He said allways put the gun in a plastic bag, or in between two pieces of cellophane first. I never had a problem but Im going to start doing that.

I have heard others talk about situations where the presentation case liner adhered to the finish of a gun. No matter what, DO NOT put a gun in a plastic bag or between celephane, as this will retain moisture and cause the gun to rust.

I bought a model 57 recently that had a dark spot on the grip. I took some oil and a rag and pretty much rubbed it all off. When I looked at my rag, it was royal blue (looked like blue ink). I gotta believe it was from the original blue liner in the case. I put a new liner in the case (second photo), but I'm not going to store the gun in the presentation case.

Guns go IN the safe, cases go on TOP of the safe.

Presentation cases were not intended to be storage cases. 1 old 0311 is correct!

If you have to do this, use wax paper as a buffer between the two surfaces.

ALL my handguns are stored in the original boxes and each one (regardless of which brand) gets wrapped in a piece of S&W treated paper so there is no contact with any cardboard or packaging materials. This has worked for me for 37 years. The S&W paper is cheap (I get it directly from S&W) and when it gets trashed, I simply grab a fresh one.

VCI paper can be had from a variety of sources but note it comes with its own warnings regarding long-term storage:

I store all my guns in Bore-Stores, at about $7 each they're well worth the investment.

The last time I purchased the S&W paper they charged me .75 cents / sheet if memory serves. Just call them up and order a few dozen sheets.

Last time I ordered parts from the factory, I asked about the paper and they sent me a few sheets, gratis.

For several years I had a nickel 6" Diamondback in a Colt custom case. When I opened it up recently to check on it, the insides had stuck to the nickel and had actually turned the nickel white in spots. This is a $2,500 gun. I tried to clean it but to no avail.Good thing I checked on it. It had been in a trunk for at least 14 years. Live and learn. Big Larry
