Default Grandpa's model 36

Grandpa left me this old model 36. Ser# 40001x. Can anyone help me with a Mfg date and aprox value? This piece looks as clean as new

Too many numbers or not enough letters. In 1969 it topped out at 786544. After 1969 it started with a J prefix.
Are you getting the numbers from the base of the grip?

Yes, that is what is stamped on the bottom. do i need to look under the grip?

I would estimate DOB in mid-1965. Unable to open your zip file to see condition so can't comment on value.

Doesn't look carried or even fired much, if at all. It's an outstanding carry revolver with a pocket holster. I'm guessing around $350.00. Not much $$ for a fine handgun but that's all they go for around here.

Looks like the grips might be for a later model gun. If it is in as nice shape as it appears from the pic, I think it would bring $400-425 in this area.

Thanks for all of info. It has been shot but not much at all and there isn't any holster wear so i am sure it was never carried. I own a couple of newer J frames and while they are nice revolvers and I enjoy shooting them the action of this one feels far superior.
