Model 28-2 value

I am considering making an offer on a 28-2, approximately 1979 vintage. Really nice condition, with just a faint turn line and the tiniest bit of bluing loss at the very tip of the barrel. The roll marks have been filled with gold paint. 4" barrel, Pachmayr grips. Opinions as to a fair price would be appreciated!

Local shop has one in about the same shape with rubbers marked at $599. I think that's about $150 high but prices on these have been rising. MHO.

My local shop would have it marked at $599.00. I'd offer $525.00. They'd take $550.00.

In my area, a decent M28-2, not in good condition but decent, will sell for $425 to $475, good conditon, $500 to $550. The gold paint will come off easily if you do not like it. Prices on these have jumped and finding one for $350 to $400 is not viable in my area. Good luck!

Same here... south Ga. Seldom see a decent used S&W revolver for less than $400 at any LGS. Those that sell for less are generally pretty rubbed up/used hard, etc.

It helps if we know what the asking price is. If nothing else, "inquiring minds want to know". :D

$500 would probably make it a good buy. A gun show dealer in my area used to have a LNIB 4" M28-2 priced at $650. He doesn't have it any more so I assume he got his price. (The dude is ... uh ... "difficult" so I don't talk to him much. Thus this is all I know about it.)

drewjh, I picked up a 28 no dash on GB, on Christmas Day, for $450. It is very clean (95%+according to my F.F,L.) 1960 gun w/S prefix serial #. Back to what you were asking, while I was searching on GB for 1, there were examples for under $500. The local gunshow, had one in the box for $595. (didn't buy that 1 ) I have been very lucky, that the last 6 revolvers I bought without touching, (internet) have all been nice! Good luck with your search! Bob

I picked up a 28-2 in pristine condition with the original grips about 2 weeks ago for $569 OTD.
