Default From Gunshop to the Range.

Hi Guys,

I found another room to visit here at S&W Forum with the purchase of a 28-2 4". Ser.# S305XXX.
I was in a rush at the range, only putting 12 rounds downrange at only 25'. But it's a keeper.

Only issue I had was ejecting the shells. They came out of the cylinder only about 1/4" then stopped. I had to really work the plunger in order to get them loose so I could reload. Anyone know why this would happen?

Certainly not a fan of the Hogue's that came with the revolver and I am already shopping for new grips.
This my 2nd S&W. My other is a 686-1 6".

Cylinder holes need cleaning, full of carbon from shooting 38 specials.

Thanks.
I took the 28 apart when I did get it home and was amazed how dirty the revolver was.
I bore snaked the complete cylinder and then cleaned the grooves where the butt of the shell seats.

Seems to me that the past owner just took care of the bore and ignored the rest of the revolver. Sharp Grooves!

As HSmith said most likely a carbon ring from .38's. Some elbow grease and a bit of Flitz will take care of it.
Doesn't it make you feel good when a new to you gun hits where it's supposed to? I acquired an old Colt SP1 a few years back, took it to the range with the A1 sight tool to get it sighted in, the first 10 shots just cut the bull away, made me feel good that the last owner knew what he was doing.
Congrats on a great gun and enjoy it.

Congrats on your 28! Did cleaning the cyliders cure your ejection problem?
Just a tip and it works. After thoroughly cleaning your 28, paying special attention to the bore, cylinders and under the extraxtion star. Then apply some Militec-1 to the entire revolver it and heat it up as directed. Makes a major difference in extraction and is the best lube/conditioner money can buy. Do it with all of my S&W's and love it. Especially if you do the innards. Feels like a $100.00 trigger job as you wouldn't believe the junk inside of one of them older revolvers. I use their grease on the contact surfaces afterwards, then put the sideplate back on carefully.

take a 44magnum bore brass brush put it on a short cleaning rod. dip it in bore cleaner put the brass rod into a drill and spin each cylinder. i do this to all my 357's after shooting alot of 38's in them.
