Default Help Needed With A couple Of Pawn Shop K Frames

Went to a new pawn shop today and they had 2 K frames in the showcase .
First one was a 3" heavy barrel 64-3 Serial # 7D 79284 .
No box, rubber Pacs for grips, light scuffing . $299.00
Second one was a mint with box 4" 15-3, factory wood grips,looked un-fired. Serial # 3K 37796 . $399.00 .
These prices were the tag prices, not the "sale" price .
Can someone please tell me when they were made and how the prices look ?
With a change of grips the 64-3 would seem to be a great packing .38 .
Thanks in advance,
Nick

My opinion only, I have never owned, & will never own a fixed sight K-frame. I also don't like 3" barrels, so for me. it would be the Mod 15, although I believe the price is slightly high.

The Model 15 would be around 1972 and would probably be a great deal.

Those wouldn't last a week around here at those prices.

A three inch Model 64 is a great packing piece, and of the two you list I'd grab that one without much dickering.

The mint Model 15 with box would also be high on my list. I carried a Model 15 in the Air Force, and I think it is the best looking handgun Smith has ever made. For an all around gun it is probably a better pick than the 64. I wouldn't balk much at that price, either.

I would have brought that 64 home with me. Even at $299. If the seller were to "cut you some cake" on the price, even better yet!

The 15 is a little high, in my opinion, but having the box and in perfect condition helps. I'd feel better about the deal at $300- maybe $325 OTD...

I'm reading this thread and find myself looking at the date to see if it's from a couple years ago, when I read that LNIB Model 15 should be had for 300.
In my area everything is going for much higher prices these days. I'm talking about stores and shows and private sellers that know what they have.
At those prices I would have hurt myself trying to get my wallet out.

"The 15 is a little high, in my opinion,..."
Yep. Here in the great fly over region of the county too.

I don't know why but 15's don't bring the money that other K frames of the same time period do.

Three inch guns always sell good and should come home with you whenever a good price knocks. They make good trade bait!

I gotta move out of Illinois again.
Those prices are fantastic! In Illinois even used firearms are expensive.
I would have negotiated a little and owned both of those babies. (in a heartbeat!)

Forgot to add that the owner said $350.00 plus tax for the model 15 .
I didn't ask about the 64's sale price .

This must have crept in when the new program took over. A mint, unfired, model 15 (didn't say what bbl. length) for $350? Sign me up for every one you can get. And some folks saying its to high? 4 inch bbl, my mistake.

Just mho.

Regards

Bill

Maybe I should clarify, it's not that a $400-425 Mod 15 is all that expensive to one who wanted it, but they can be had at that price (retail) with regularity.

Now drop out the ones at $500 as "fairy tail" priced and $300 ones as the OP described as one with 'money left in it" and 400 is about right.

For someone that wants it, that is. They seem to be common guns. I'll grant you if it was a NIB gun, that's uncommon and would warrant a second look.

I would see if $625 would get you both guns...out the door.

I think those are fair prices (or marginally below value), and are cheaper than what I usually see around here. Not screaming deals, but if you like either one- it would be a good opportunity to buy.

Whew, wish we had prices like that around here, if you want one here, add $100 to the ticket. I'd buy both for that "sale" price and never look back.

With box, doc's and tools, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

I paid $420 for this one in 2007, that came that way.

But like Steve says, it's not that way now. Today it would be north of $550 around here.

I have to jump in here and say I'm with -rags-. It's interesting to see the locations of the members that think the price on the Mod 15-3 is high. Lots of ya'll are from the south, I should have stayed down in FL. Up in the frozen north country the mint 15-3 with/box/tools I saw at a gun show last year was marked $575. I offered $500 and was turned down.

I may be speaking out of turn here, but I dearly love a 3” barrel K frame revolver. I'm an old LEO and always carried a 3” barreled model 66 for years and years. I shot many LEO pistol matches using my 3” in the compact carry class. In my opinion the 3” guns are perfectly balanced and handle extremely well.

I would jump at the chance to get that 3” model 64. I'm in the middle Georgia area and any 3” barreled Smith is a rare find.

In addition, I cut-my-teeth on fixed sighted K frames. That's all my Dept used way back when. I have no problems with them and I'm even a little partial to the fixed sight.

Here's a pix of Old Faithful.

If the grips in the 3" 64 look like this they may be factory originals. The 3" k's are my favorite shooters so the decision would be a no-brainer...

A pawnshop in South Florida area, max he gave is $350 for both guns($150 and $200, probably $100 and $150). You aren't going to get him anywhere near a reasonable $500 for both so figure a max price you are willing to pay, go in and offer less. If he don't take it, offer your max. At this point pay the man or fold your cash, put it in your pocket and go on with your day. Joe

I can promise you one thing. If I was looking at them in my favorite shop, and they had those prices on them, if I didn't buy them, the guy behind me would.

I'd be hard pressed to walk away from the model 15 at that price.

Being it's at a pawn shop, I would negotiate the price down, starting at $300 and you'd probably end up in the middle for a really good deal.

Put on your poker face and don't let them see you covet it or your chances for getting the price in your favor will diminish significantly

Here in northern Nevada, that asking price would be acceptable.

Respond Code 3 back to the Pawn Shop and purchase both of the revolvers.
