Default Serial # HELP for a S&W 10-5

I do not have a S&W catalog to look up serial numbers, so I was hoping someone could help me. I have a S&W model 10-5 2" blue revolver. The serial number is C716244. If you can help me with the year this was produced, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jason

I have a 10-5 Serial# C735XXX with a ship date of 3/65 that should help you narrow it down.

Default Model 10-5 5" Fired Once!

I am extremely fortunate to have found a S&W Model 10-5 with 5" tapered barrel. It has clearly had only one proof round fired. The guy I got it from said his father bought two of them brand new in 1960s. Put one in the closet and fired the other one. I served in the Air Force in SEA and when I was armed I wore a gun like this. Serial number is C855562. Would really like to know year it was manufactured. It came with the box and original registration card. I paid $480. Was able to meet with the owner within 10 miles of home. I am thrilled! At first I thought I would not fire it. But I realize from the forum that there are a lot of these guns out there and it is only of greatest value to me. So it is off to the range. Other question would be can this fire the +P cartridge? I am assuming not. If anyone wants I will take some better pictures.

C810,533 – C999,999…..1966 – 67

Not a bad price for one LNIB. If you want to spend the extra money to use +P, go ahead. Not much reason to do so, however.

Default Thanks for quick response!

I joined the Air Force in 1967, so I am even more thrilled the revolver is spot on from my era.
