Default Price check on 64 NY-1

Hello all...was wondering what a model 64 NY-1 goes for these days...condition is pretty solid, a little wear at the muzzle is the only real issue.

I have seen some of the NY-1 theads on here, but dont know what the going rate might be. I appreciate any insight!

What barrel length, round or square butt, vapor honed or brushed finish, wood or goodyears?
I'm a sucker for NY-1's, if you're not getting it let me know.

I'd be happy paying 325-350 at the top, preferably under that, but more if I couldn't resist. J&G had a bunch of them recently but I can't recall the pricing, most were square butt.
The only 64 NY-1 that I don't have yet, is the 4 inch round butt, they seem to be elusive.

Asking price is 300...I will see if it has a square or round.

FWIW, a few weeks ago J&G advised me that they had sold out of the NY-1s.

Make sure you come home with it regardless of the shape of the butt.

Since this is a new, active thread, I thought I'd piggy-back it. What about the value of a 2" RB ANIB, with a factory letter from Mr. Roy?

IF it matters, the finish is a darker, more 'coarse' gray, than the typical light matte 'vapor hone'. The S/N is also 'boxed off', setting it off to the eye from the background matte.

Thanks.

Mike, I will keep an eye out, I got one for a friend of Richie in excellent condition with the original box about a month ago for 375.00

I picked up a NY-1 from a board member a couple years ago here in the Peach State. Being a New Yorker and in law enforcement, it was a piece of home. I got it for $325. It is a 4 inch heavy barrel with a round butt grip. The only marks on it were the turn ring on the cylinder and the right grip was worn down some from being carried otherwise it was pristine. Now, if I could find a Suffolk County marked Model 67 I would be very happy.

Thanks Louie, any NY-1's that you pass on would be welcome, even not so perfect examples.

I nearly bought one today at a local gun show. It was marked NY-1 on the frame under the crane. It also had numbers on the side plate, which I assume must be the armorer's S/N. It has a "factory bobbed" hammer, and according to the seller "a short stroke" action, or words to that effect. He showed me that the hammer did not travel to the rear as far as other S&W actions.

Is there something really special about these 64's other than to a NYPD officer for nostalgia purposes? Something in the way they shoot? Thanks for any enlightment. The show is still on tomorrow, and I could return to see if the many old retired NY officers in the area left it on the table.

Some who collect police guns likes em', especially those who served in the NYPD. The serial number was stamped on the frame just below the cylinder on the left side during the later runs of 64's. ALL of them were marked on the bottom of the butt.

Here's an early 64, a dash 3. Note no serial number visible.

A later 64 dash 5, you see the serial number on the frame under the cylinder

A dash 4 with a brushed finish, numbers are stamped on the frame

Victor, I paid $400 for my 2 " RB with box a few years ago on this forum. It wasn't NIB but close. I would like to see pics of your gun if you could post them. According to the book, the 2 inchers are the rarest of the Smith and Wesson Model 64 NY-1's. Here's mine:

I know this thread is a little old, but I am having a hard time with this one. I found a 2" RB NY-1 with the vapor hone finish in very good condition. It has rubber and no box-$500 and they will not budge on the price. Seems too high to me. Any advice would be much appreciated.
