Default Model 66-1, 4 inch. Price check please.

Hi All:
Local shop has one of these. Circa 1979. No box, no paperwork, no tools. Just a nice little Model 66-1, 4 inch. Mechanicals (timing, endshake, etc) are excellent. Has the original checkered target stocks in Goncalo Alves with the speed loader cut. They are a little rough finish wise. No nicks or chips in the wood, slight checkering wear, but would clean up nicely with an acetone soak/scrub and some fresh Tru Oil.

Red ramp front sight. Non W.O. rear sight blade. It needs a good cleaning but appears to be shot very little, and with mild loads.

Shop is asking $495.00 What do you think? Any input is appreciated.
c good ps....I don't have one of these yet....

there are some here that would say the price is too high, but I for one
say, if you like it and it looks good, buy that thing. if you don't some
one else is going too. You could try haggeling a bit and see what
happens. but if it were me that baby would come home with me. I paid
449 plus tax and bg check about 3 months ago for a -2 made in '86

That price sounds reasonable to me. Last month I paid $450 for a 66-2 and after shooting it a couple of times I'm pleased with my purchase.

I'd also say $450 without box, and in good condition! These Combat Magnums are starting to bring higher values of late. I believe they will continue to creep up. Walk in with $450 cash! I gotta believe you'll walk out with the 66!!

Good Luck!!

A lot of folks would pay more for a "pinned and recessed" gun so $495 is not out of line.

I agree with Ashlander and JAREDSHS. $495 is a good price for a clean P&R 66-1. Buy it, shoot it, love it! Regards 18DAI

I may be just a little high, but I have to admit, I would buy it and never look back. Just my opinion.

Not a terrible price for one of S&W's best.

It's a fair price. If you look at the prices on the various auction sites, it falls in the middle without the shipping and transfer fees added in. Being an earlier model, it is also a more desirable gun if the condition merits the price. Good luck.

It's amazing that today this would be a no brainier. I'd buy a dozen at that price today.

I can't handle a dozen at that price right now. I'd only take five.

Default M66 n/d revolvers, a must have.

Great deal, buy it before someone else does. If I read your location correctly being So. Calif. I would think that regionally speaking this is a good deal. I purchased this M66 n/d at auction for $475 minus the Ahrends stocks and even with the associated cost still felt it was a good deal. You can't access your deal based on another persons regional value in MHO. The trigger action on these 66's is very special. "BUY IT NOW". I hope these photos will seal the deal.

The OP is 3 years old and yes today its a bargain at that price...
On a side note while the 66-1 is not the most "Collectable" revision it did relocate the gas ring from the yoke to the cylinder and also had a slightly shorter production run than the Model 66 (no dash).

I have a 66-1 with 2 1/2 ported barrel. Is this a factory option or after market porting?

Default 66-1 unfired. Value?

I have a 66-1 with 4" bbl that I purchased new in 1979, and it is still unfired. It has the box, accessories, and all paperwork. The mop has some black marks on it, but I know it has never been used. I would like to sell it locally (Phoenix area), but I don't know if there is any premium for being unfired. Any ideas?
