According to SCSW#3 , the company made a run of 1040 M14-2's with a 4" heavy barrel in 1965. Your serial number fits within that range. It sounds like an order for a police sales or at least targeted toward same. Bob!

Welcome to the Forum Phil!
From memory, I think that serial number falls in the "Dayton" guns - how about some pictures?

Interesting stocks.... are they numbered to the gun? It seems to be in remarkable condition.

Welcome to the forum Phil,
Your gun is a few hundred numbers higher than mine and has the same PC diamond Magna grips,
Mine are original and numbered to the gun on the inside and Im guessing yours are as well.
As for value for just the gun in high condition,
I would be "Guessing" in the $500 to $800 range from an informed seller.
As you can see by the pictures below the short barrel 14 is not easily distinguishable from the Model 15 and 19
to the untrained eye , As a result my guess is they occasionally are found for much less by extremely lucky buyers....
A group that I am guessing you may fall into?
Care to share some more details of how you found it etc?
Here is a 4" barrel 15, 14 and 19 side by side for comparison.

14-2 4"
Just purchased a 14-2 4" from a guy that was a comp shooter in the USAF. Nice tight piece in GREAT shape. That's all I know about the pistol. With the orig Box. SS# K6241 XX Spec Features 4771. What year would that make it?
Thank you

All I can add to what others have said is that this is a hard to find revolver. My collection focuses on K target models, especially the postwar K-38s. I've been doing this for a long time and I have never seen a 4" Model 14 for sale, at least not that I can recall. I've seen them in other people's collections, but it is a revolver I have yet to add to my own collection.
In short - way to go! Good for you.
And welcome to the Forum!
Jack

For VNVMCfish, your Model 14-2 4" dates to 1965 according to the serial number tables in the SCSW 3rd edition.
