At The Estate Sale Today
Earlier this week, one of the guys at my LGS asked me if I was interested in a very nice Model 29-2. I trust his judgement, and I said "Yes!" It doesn't have the display case, but it did come with a full box of Winchester .44 Magnum 240gr SP's, plus two speed loaders and twelve extra rounds. Asking price was $500.
This morning I went to the estate sale to close the deal. The revolver is in excellent condition, with only a couple of small scratches. While there and filling out Michigan's mandatory forms, the widow asked me if I was interested in a .357 Magnum revolver. I said yes. She brought out a Colt Trooper pre-MkIII made in 1966. That one cost me $380, including three boxes of Winchester .357 Magnum ammo, two Safariland speedloaders, and twelve extra rounds of ammo. Not really fond of the Pachs, but I'll find a set of correct stocks for it.
Sometime a plan really comes together nicely.

He was a retired cop from a nearby city. He must have had good taste, because the "green cards" showed two Colt Pythons, a Model 27-2, 2 Colt DS (2nd gen), Sig P228, and a Colt Gold Cup. Unfortunately, he sold all but the Model 29 and the Trooper. His son-in-law claimed the Sig.

Kinda like finding gold nuggets... Where you find one there are often more.
Congrats on an outstanding purchase!

Congrats...The Colt is really the icing on the cake.(Or maybe it is the cake) After reading this forum today it seems like there were some very nice guns put into many good, safe hands this weekend.

You might post that trooper on the Colt fourm to get a value estimate, but I can guarantee you it will be less than the $380 you paid. The pre Mark III troopers are pretty well sought after.

Glenn, I posted both photos on the Colt Forum, but I wasn't looking for any values, either. Locating a set of period-correct stocks is the next order of business. The Pachs on it are fine for shooting, but I'd like to have a set of wood stocks for it.
