1980 Model 27-2 Nickel w/ 4" barrel
Another walk in find at the local GS today. I actually put this one on layaway for about 4 hours (LOL) then changed my mind and picked it up.
From the serial N7XXXXX and per SWSC, it was made in 1980.
It has N stamped on cylinder, Red ramp front sight and white outline rear sight. Unfortunately it did'nt come with box and the orig grip. Although the pachmayr feels good in my hand, I still want either a target or magna grip on it.
Here are some pics together with it's brother blue 3.5" 27-2.
I actually swapped the grips just for the pics. The gun is beautiful in Nickel! but it's hard to take pics with flash on, it makes it appear scratched up. The finish on this gun is 98-99% condition. Forcing cone and top strap looks excellent for its age, and seemed to have been only test fired from the factory. My wallet and I have to take a break after my last 4 purchases.
***ETA: 3/24 for better pics, no flash just natural light***
pic of day I bought it

Very nice. I have a blued 4" M27-2 that is in about 99% condition. Until I joined the Forum I didn't know the 4" models were pretty scarce.
I paid $300 for mine about 12 years ago.

I just won a bid on ebay so wood target grips are on the way (I hope)
Anyway, Here's a few pics without the flash, It's hard to describe, but the Nickel looks waaay better in person.
ETA: 3/24 took better pics today with natural light:

Now you need a 5" for the hard to find trifecta of the 27's.
Nice pick-up.

Beautiful M27-2. In my opinion, one of the best looking Smiths. Here is mine with some Kurac's. Wood deffinately!

Thanks guys!
Nice gun JCS&W!
I have an N factory Target grip on the way, it was the only thing I found on ebay that did'nt come with a premium lol.
I'll update pics when it comes.
Unless someone has factory magnas they want to part with?

Congrats on a very nice and hard to find Smith.
I have found a very nice alternative is the
Herret Extra Fancy Coco Bolo Custom grips with S&W Medallions.
They are sized slightly smaller than factory grips so if you have big hands you might not like them but the grain is excellent.
If you shop around you can find them for $35 plus shipping which nowadays is a very good deal especially with S&W medallions .

You're going to love that Model 27. I own one like it, made in the same year. It's a super revolver, and a ball to shoot.

Great buy!
Beautiful figured wood looks great. I like the Magna styles on the 4 inch or less N-Frames. They seem to handle the best for me.
Mine's a bit more "flashy" I put faux pearls on it and added a backup gun as well.

So while waiting on my factory Target grips, I decided to swap the factory combats from my 28-2 just to see how it'll look and fit.
Gotta say I like how the combat grip fit my hand and how it looks.
(unlike my previous experience with my 686). What you guys think?

That's a very nice 27, congratulations. Odds are it was originally equipped with Goncalo Alves Target stocks, as were nearly all 27s shipped in the mid-70s through early 80s. In fact, I never had a 27, or other N frame, other than 28s, arrive at my shop wearing any other grips. Glad you are getting Targets for it. Enjoy your new toy!
