Budsguns Police Model 10's Police trade in's
Just received mine and did not accept it at my FFL. Gun is going back for refund. They advertise 70% / 80% or so condition. Mine had exensive bluing wear on cyl and sides of the barrel down to the bare metal. Grips supplied were not smith logo but some beat up after market pair. Barrel to cylinder gap around .009, I measured. Gun was otherwise in fair conditon and shootable but seemed to me was not worth
the 267.00 + transfer fees. I would rate the one I got no more than 50% NRA condition. Maybe some are better. Any one else ordered one? JMO

Mine was OK after a bit of touchup and tidying up:
Added some stocks out of my stash to replace really nasty goodyears that came on it.

Now that looks like a Smith should ! Mine was really not even 50% I think. Barrel was mostly down to bare metal in most spots and cylinder showed bluing loss and also did not come with S&W grips but some aftermarket junk..wood, looked liked it was dragged on the down the road aways.
Its only redeeming feature, seemed mechanically Ok, but barrel cyl gap was definitely more than 6 thousandths, more like .010. Timing was on...but probably would shave some, but that's not certain. JMO

Guess you didnt pay the extra 10$ for "hand pick", did you?
I dont think they advertise what kind of grip you get, so that's not really a complaint. I dont know really what you expected from this sort of sale. You shouldnt be expecting to get a collectible quality gun, you should expect to be getting a good shooter. How was it mechanically?
For the price, I think your expectations may be a little high.
Unless you live in the "people's republik of Kalifornia", there are better deals to be had.

These are USED cop guns. Usually very used. Gotta understand that up front.
The 3-incher I got a few months back had a lot of little dings all over it.
Looked like the Aussie cops used their guns like boomerangs to knock down the perps.
Even it cleaned up pretty well:

For the price, a fair amount of cosmetic flaws should be expected, and as was mentioned, original (or even just S&W) grips aren't advertised (and are easily replaced).
What at minimum I'd expect is sound mechanical function, which is in the ad; that covers proper tolerances between the forcing cone and cylinder. If you measured correctly and found the tolerances out of spec, that's fair game for a return.

With an ex-cop gun EXPECT a terrible appearance. Also expect the stocks to be replacements and/or in awful condition. I would probably not pay $280 for a used M10 knowing what it will look like. To me it's a $200 gun at best.

My 10-8 grips were original, and as new. Blueing wear, but touched it all up. Good shooter! Buds does not tell you what you are getting ( dash #), or have hand pick. Think that I have gotten 4 guns from them, and been satisified every time. Bob

Good to hear this. I was thinking of ordering one but may wait and see what shows up at the gun show next weekend first.

That may be so. But they advertise in their photo of the guns..wearing Smith and Wesson logo grips at least. Not some wooden aftermarket junk. 70%/80% means just that. Not 50% or less, that's the thing and that's giving it the high end estimate. I don't mind taking apart and cleaning, maybe some polishing etc but be 70% to start with. Not something needing gunkote..or cold blue. JMO

That is a fine speciman, wish mine would have been even close to that. That is in 70% or better. You got a fine buy.

Do they have round butt versions too or was this an earlier purchase?

Got this one a couple weeks ago. At that time, they had both RB and SB versions listed separately. The RB one's stock number was VPD104RB.

A while back several months ago, when i looked at their site, They did have a disclaimer that the photos were supplied by the manufacturer and were not of the actual gun you would recieve. It also said they guarantee that the gun would function.

All their listings have that same disclaimer.
While the image does appear to be an Aussie Model 10, its probably a "select" one.
My first (3" - 1972) gun was pretty dinged up all over. Like the Aussie cops just used 'em like boomerangs to knock down the perps.
The 4" one was a -11 from 1999 and in much nicer shape overall.

I requested a RB and wood grips and got that on a 10-11 last month. The B-C gap was .006" and it had 1/4" of blue loss at the muzzle end. I went over it with Flitz and cold blued the muzzle end. Looks pretty good now too. Can't wait to take it to the range. I think I got a good buy and am happy with it.

I have been told that most, if not all, of this variation were a special order for Australian police. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will clear this up.

that's what i see that's not so good about bud's guns - at times there are no pics or the pics shown aren't of the gun in question, and there's usually only one pic. more of a gamble than not, imho.
i just bought a 14-2 listed at guns america (bought from robertson trading post in tennessee) for $470 shipped and the high level of detail in the images and information was Spot On. they'll all get my business again, for sure.

They are used, police trade in revolvers. They are priced accordingly. If you want a pristine revolver, these ain't for you.

That oversimplifies it. Nothing from the OP indicates he expected a pristine revolver at a cut rate; only that he felt the revolver he received didn't match what was advertised.
Ultimately correct or not, we can't say -- but it's a fair assertion.

Mine came blue worn, scratched, S&W RB grips beyond worn. Even the FFL offered that it could always be returned. The action, however, is silky smooth. Bore appeared unfired (?) Timing was perfect with no cylinder movement on full cock.
Paid about 25 for new S&W RB K frame grips, took it to the range where it groups like a target pistol. Perfect. Just like having a used car that runs like a top and already more than it's share of door dings. For the price I got a car gun that can go in a tackle box or a tool box.
For the price as good as expected, no better. But I have a question. What the hell is that little dot sort of bar code thingy that came pasted in front of the hammer? Notice that others pictured have same. May be some Aussie plot to track us and send the info back to Eric Fast and Furious Holder to hunt us down.

WB, according to an Aussie Forum member, these are tracking tags. They are VPA and a #. ( Victoria Police Armoury) My 10-8, is VPA03425. Sure wish I had a way of reading it. My sticker will stay, I think it is kind of neat! Bob
