Default Model 49 Factory Parkerized?

I have had this Model 49 no dash for years. I was told the parkerized finish was original. Did S&W offer this model in a parked finish?[IMG][/IMG]

If it is Parkerized and not a matte blue, I don't think it is from the factory, but anything is possible.

With Smith & Wesson, it's better to never say "never" but I'd have serious reservations about the phosphate finish being original on this one. A factory letter would be what is needed to document in what state it was shipped (and before some smart aleck says it, I don't mean Massachusetts).

Default not bad, not bad at all.

I like it. You said you have had it for years. Have you carried for years? Or is it for home? Nice 49.

I don't carry it but, it is a nice home defense piece. It has a grey phosphate finish. Its kind of ugly but it has grown on me over the years. I have never seen any other S&W revolvers with a parkerized finish.

Target trigger?

I'd bet a dollar against this being original. Maybe a special order or built for a foreign PD but I have never seen or heard of such a finish being used outside of war time.

I like it, but I like parkerized guns, they look like serious business to me. I have several, here are my 29 and 586 L-Comp:

Good eye. I noticed the "banana" stocks but not that trigger. All in all, really an odd duck of a gun....

Yes, it has a target trigger. I put on the banana stocks. It had Pachmayr grips on it when I got it.

I have 2 .38 "Victory" guns that have the same sort of color of parking that this 49 does. More gray in color than the greenish color in U.S. Army issue guns. The 49 does look more the color of a S&W Victory .38. Just a thought!!!

Not that terribly old, should've shipped in 1981.

Colt was selling some parkerized DA revolvers in the eary 80's - the LW Agent and the Peacekeeper. Maybe S&W fooled around with one of their own?

I've got a Model 36 3" with a nearly identical finish. Not sure if it's factory, but when I got the gun, it appeared to be unfired. I'd love to find another Model 36 with the same finish in a snub nose configuration, for use as a backup/deep concealment gun.

Default I Like 'em Like That......

Here is a 15 that I had parked.

I did a 29-2 once also. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of that one.
