Trigger Width Extension? (Model 28)
Saw a Model 28 at the pawn shop and it looks like it has an aftermarket extension on the trigger to make it wider. It appears to be held on with a roll pin (possibly drilled through the trigger); I've not seen something like this before (but I am new to S&W's) so I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before?
Not sure on the history of the revolver, but it's a 6" and with quite a bit of holster wear but mechanically it seems to be in good shape and the price is pretty low.
Thanks in advance!

I believe they are called trigger shoes and the ones I've seen use 2 very small allen head screws to hold them on.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm a long time lurker and have learned a ton just by reading. I wished I had been paying closer attention to the "shoe" but I was preoccupied with a Colt Trooper that they also had. I'll have to go take another look at it and make sure I'm remembering it correctly.

They were pretty common back in the day. The idea is to create a larger contact point for the finger, which gives the illusion of a lighter trigger pull, same as the factory target trigger. Used mostly for single-action shooting.

Most trigger shoes can be easily removed, so don't let that stop you if the condition and price of the gun are right.

Would these trigger shoes come as a standard or were all aftermarket?
Thanks

Trigger shoes were an after-market accessory.

As JayCee stated, they were after market assessories. Please be aware they are NOT recommended for a combat or self defense gun, as the screws have been known to lossen and slip, which will jam the revolver and keep it from firing.
In addition, those screws leave marks on the sides of your trigger!

I have a couple, I remove them from any gun I buy. They are not safe if used with a holster, as most of them stick out past the side of the trigger guard, and can get caught on the edge of a holster when re-holstering the gun and cause a ND.

Trigger shoes earned a bad reputation because they caught on the edges of some holsters and caused misfires. This is an interesting oddity for your parts box, not for a gun you plan to shoot or carry.

I have a 1/2 dozen of them and recently threw away about twice that many (probably should have tossed the all, they're worthless). Very common 30-40 years ago. All after-market and, as noted, they attached with set screws. sac-gunslinger is correct, they were somewhat infamous for causing ADs when being holstered.

A 27-2 that I bought recently came with one held on with a pair of set
screws. I removed it imediately and found that the trigger had been
rather poorly smoothed and radiused by bubba. I plan to re-do it when
I get around to it. No big deal.
