Default M17-4 8 3/8" with box

Thank you in advance for your time

All opinions as to condition and value for this M17 would be greatly appreciated. Bought this piece new back in the 80's.
It retains about 98% condition. Are the 8 3/8" guns very common?

Regards,
Leonard

That's a real nice gun Leonard! A lot of people on this forum will be all too quick to say that the 8 3/8" bbl is the least desireable length, but there has been a resurgence of interest in the K-22's with the long tube in recent years. I had been looking until recently for a 17-3 to go along with a 48-4 that I had. I looked at a LOT of guns like yours (not all of them in as nice a condition,of course) over the course of several months and found that asking prices on a straight sale was usually around $750. This was often a BIN price also for those listed on the auction sites, but the ones that SOLD were usually in the $600-$650 range. I would say that yours would command a bare minimum of $650 considering it comes as a complete package, possibly more. You never know until you put in on the open market.
f.t.

Leonard: That's a pretty desirable piece you have there. Bought a 17-3 with 8 3/8" barrel, box and docs last year. The dealer had it at $495 plus tax - no budge. I paid the price and was glad to get it.

In about past 6 months I saw one ANIB go for 1200 on GB and another for about a G note. The 8 3/8 is the least common out there now and the most desirable.

If you are selling that, If you could not get a thousand I would GB it, because I *AM* seeing them SELL for this amount. ( in ANIB cond with all) Gotta start them at a penny!

Go do a search and see how many you find.

Heck there are less desirable 4 inch 63s bringing more than some say this would, and they seem to be way less desirable to the serious target guys...

I have an older brother, shipped in 1973. I was fortunate, and got mine for $475, a steal. It's a tack driver. I also own a Model 14 with the 8 3/8" barrel. They're both a lot of fun to shoot.

Enjoy!!!

I think it's a great gun! I love the long barrel guns, and I think it's a matter of time before more people discover how much fun they are to shoot and the prices escalate.

Paid $204 for mine back in 1980.
Used it for rimfire silhouette competition back then, and did very well with it.

Guess they're holding their value pretty well!

I bought a mint 17-4 with an 8 3/8 inch barrel several years ago for $550 and I wouldn't sell it today for $750. Why, because it's the most accurate 22LR revolver I own and it's a hoot to shoot because it makes me look good. I own a bunch of S&W 22 LR revolvers and all of them are accurate but this one thinks it's a rifle.

This thread brings up painful memories. I had a Mod 17 just like that when I was 17ish. My dad had a Mod 57 (also w/8 3/8in). Well, I just had to have a 41mag, so I traded my 17 for a Ruger Blackhawk 41mag (I was young and dumb, but dad let me make my own decisions). I will someday find a replacement 17 w/ 8 3/8in that I can afford. (don't have the Blackhawk anymore either, but not looking for a replacement).

I paid $500 about 2 years ago no box or docs and that was the last one I have seen for sale locally.

Glad I bought my little Buntline special.

I picked up my 98% 17-4 long Tom about two years ago for $499 with ugly rubber Hogue's on it. I have yet to see another one for sale in my area. Great fun at the range. I would not sell it for $750 today. I love long barrel revolvers.
