Default Model 10, 2 inch barrel

I was at my local gun store last night and saw a interesting S&W Model10 a dash 2 I think.
Two things caught my attention and I would like to know if these would warrant more investigation and possible purchase?

S&W Model 10 -2 (I not sure 100% of the variation)
Blued
Two inch barrel
Serial number starting with AEVXXXX
Clean & tight
A conservative 95% condition
Priced at $350.00

Is this pistol unusual? Dose the AEV prefix on the serial number mean anything?

A 2" RB Model 10 is a nice gun to have. That price isn't bad if that is the total with tax and everything

Probably actually a 10-7, dating to late 1984 or so. Doesn't sound as if there's anything too remarkable about it. I'd hold out for another early gun more like that nickeled one you previously posted about, M&P's just a few years newer than that one (in the lower "C" prefix seral number range) can also be found in the snubnose configuration.

As Goony said, with an alpha-numeric SN it has to be at least a 10-7. The only significance to the AEV SN is that the gun was made after the alpha-numeric SNs began during 1980. It is not a prefix, it is the first three characters of the SN.

$350. Very reasonable here. Forged parts, no lock, made before Safety-Hammer bought S&W, the ones they make now are $700 +/-, 4"barrel only, and there aren't ever going to be any more forged part guns made. They certainly won't be cheaper in the future, especially if the incumbent is re-elected this fall!

I would make a small wager that if you listed that gun on the for sale forum here at that price it wouldn't last more than a few minutes before it was sold.

That's what I gave for a 4 screw which was listed here while I was on the Guns For Sale section, i only waited about 10 seconds before jumping on it.

I have a 2" 10-5, which I found at a gun show recently. I paid $275 plus tax.....but I think I got rather lucky on that. $350 doesn't sound bad.

I love the 10-5. It handles so well, fits my hand perfectly and shoots great!

I guess I goofed because I passed on a pre-model 10 just like that yesterday for the same price.

Default I bought a very clean 98% +/- about a year ago.

Nickel gun with box and papers. 400$
I am not losing any sleep over that deal. Aside from that I have not seen a model ten two inch for sale anywhere since then. A lot of people like the J frames, but they are to small for me. I will take a K frame any day.

I would buy a (RB) 2" Model 10 at that price in the time it took me to quick-draw my wallet.

I picked up a 10-5 nickel for $349 a few weeks ago. I would add it to my gun safe.

I paid $375 for a 99 percent 10-3 2" a couple of years ago and thought I got a good deal. Wonderful revolver.

I JUST bought a K frame 10-5 (machined ramp front site). Great feel, haven't shot it yet bought it from a former State Trooper/ Family for $75.- with custom Miami holster, speed loader, 340 wadcutters, 100 ball rounds. I don't mean to brag but what a deal hey? Don't hate me please. Pic's soon.

I'd sure grab it. I paid $400 for my 10-5 snub, and it was pristine. If it had ever been fired,I coudn't tell it.
Of course all my guns are shooters, and this one makes a nice"snagless sally".Installed a dehorned and polished hammer and polished and rounded trigger and kept the originals. Red ramp also installed which helps with peripheral indexing when point shooting.

I had been looking for a Mod10 snub(a nice one)for a long time,so I didn't even try to haggle on the price. Two other people wanted it,but I produced the money first.

Hey Penmon, did you buy that model 10 snubby? I bought one last year from one of the forum members and have yet to shoot it. If you get it and want some company, I'll meet up with you and we'll
try them out.

Default grandpas gun S&W MOD 10

My wifes grandpa had a gun that she now has. It was his EDC gun as a detective. I am trying to find some info on it. I cant find much on google. I cleaned the dust off and its a beautiful gun. In great shape.

Its blued. It says MOD 10
Serial C513773
Its a 2" barrel.

Anyone know anything about it? When it was made and the value? There are no other numbers near the MOD 10.
