Model 36 Question

I have been looking around for a model 36 in good condition and finally ran across one. The serial is J100xx and it is in real good shape. They are asking $400 for the gun. I need a little help, is that a fair price? Does anyone know how old it might be? Any other advice would be appreciated.

Made in 1969-1970. I wouldn't give 400 unless it was as new in box.

I just paid $475 for a pinned version (69 ~ 70) here in California and I was glad to get it.

I suppose it depends on where you live and how dictatorial the gun laws are. We can only buy "non approved" guns that were already in the State before the "roster" of "safe" guns was introduced.

Picked up a 36 at okc gun show 98% blued and box,tools.paper work for 300. Could not pass that up...

I bought my model 36 which had been carried ALOT and seldom fired with a bianchi holster and a box of shells for 300. Prices are going up though.

It is interesting that Calif. has those laws typical gun law doesn't make any sense no practical value.

With all in consideration Do you think $300 to $350 is about right for excellent condition anywhere in the country.

Never been to a gun show maybe will start looking there.

I'd offer 325 and go up to 350 if you like it. My wife wanted a new nickel 36 for Christmas. I paid way to much for it but she was happy.

I have not seen any 300.00 model 36s in my location. You would be lucky to find one at 350.00. I do not have a lot of choices on gun shops or pawn shops though.

$225 for one in my area in "Good Condition", but there are major scatches on one side and it requires rebluing.

Everyone has a preference. I would gladly pay four bills for a pristine specimen from 1970 vs buying a new one with the lock.

Have you ever observed a Brinks Armor Truck in a Funeral Procession??
If not, this is a excellant indication that one doesn't take the wealth with one when you die.

I would pay $350 tops. The model 36 is not a rare revolver and S&W made thousands of them. I have a 36 no dash and paid $125 out the door. The revolver had a lot of wear and some rust but shoots fine. I seen them on gunbroker for as much as $500. Thats insane. Be patience and you will find one for around $350 of less.
