Default 29-2

Picked up a 29-2 at the gun show today. Little finish left and the rear sight missing. Bore, timing and end shake good. The price was right and it should be a good shooter. Any ideas where to get a rear sight and how to make sure I get the right one?

It's SN is N857xxx any idea of it's birthday?

That serial number would be roughly late 81 or early 82 going by the catalog. I would post up in the wanted section for a rear sight. Someone on here most likely has parts laying around.

If you can't find it here you might try Deer Creek Gun Shop in Marietta, GA. It's a very small, very crowded shop with a full machine shop in the rear. I went in one day looking for a K-frame sight for my 17-3 and after a little looking they came up with it. They had more S&W stuff. They might have to dig around a little (not well organized) but they might have what you need. The worst that can happen is they say no. They are an almost well kept secret around here. There, I let the cat out of the bag. Sorry friends.

Ebay generally has lots of parts available. There are a few Nframe rear sights there now.

Been there myself. You're right on the money, very tight in there. There's stuff packed in there that probably hasn't seen the light of day in years. Friendly staff when I visited back in 2012. Was going to J model school at the time.
