Is 399.00 OBO a good price for a 10-5?

I don't know why the seller is using the words "Heavy Duty" in the description. I would never use those words to descripe this gun. It is not even a heavy barrel.

A Heavy Duty Smith and Wesson is an N frame. For Example38/44, Heavy Duty. These were stout revolvers and you'll see collectors of them on this site.

They do not make em like that old 10 any more and are great shooters. 10's, all variations, are sweet. I have three different variations. I would never get rid of them.

The older one's with the diamond grips, especially if they are numbered to the gun, increase the value. The add says "Or best offer". Offer what you are willing to pay under 399.00.

That's about 50-100 more than you should pay for that gun. I bought one recently for $300 OTD, and it has box, tools, etc

Model 10-5's are a common revolver but a great one. I bought a near mint one with 4 inch barrel with numbered to the gun grips 8 months ago for $375. My dealer would not budge on the price because he said I never get them this nice anymore.

How about a pair of early 10-5's (1963-1964)? One came as gun only and the other with box, etc., but both grips number to their gun. I felt good to have them OTD for $325 each at separate buys.

In my neck of the woods, you can get a 10 for $300 or less.

My nearly perfect one was (very recent) $300 OTD. There's one with some wear nearby for $275 OTD and it isn't selling. However, there's another one nearby, a 10-6 HB 4", for $450 that has some deep scratches - looks like it skidded across concrete on one side. So there's just no rhyme or reason on the pricing.

At Christmas My Jack Russell Terrier purchased a Model 10-5 with matching grips for 235 plus tax at the local gun show. She then hid it in my stocking until the appropriate moment.

If it was the perfect gun with box and everything to go with it..I would pay more. But there are still a lot of shooter grade Model 10's out there.

$399 sounds high, but I suppose it depends a little on the local market. I saw a 10-5 recently that is darn near pristine, no box or papers, for $333 OTD.

So you're not counting, close family deals like, a 10-5 for $75 bucks with 340 wadcutters and 100 ball rounds, not to mention a custom miami holster and a lock? I've known this guy since I was 15. And one family gathering I told him I got my CCW and said I was looking at wheel guns, he said he had a chief's special for $75 bucks, I said right then and there without hesitating, save it for me!!! Turns out it was a 10-5 in a Model 28 box...oh well, either way I was stoked!! He was a State Trooper and wanted to get rid of all the guns he had, said he f'n hated guns now, probably because he used them on the highway for 25+ years and maybe killed someone, I dunno. Got a Ruger MKII 100 rds HVLR for a hundred bucks too. I asked what else he had and he said he wanted to keep his nickle plated .357 for a souvenir, darn it.
Take care guys!!! I've seen them for 350 or 3 something depending on condition, mine is clean, box, oil paper.. Just lucked out.
