I just picked up a shooter grade P&R 66-1 from the LGS. I didn't notice in the store, but it had been cut for moon clips. I have read various reports on the safety of this conversion. What do you smart people think?
No safety issue and wth most of those conversions you don't have to use moonclips if you don't want to.
ETA: How about posting pics. I just reread your post and saw that the gun is P&R, that would be a lot of milling to cut the cylinder down enough to accomodate a moonclip. I'm curious to see how it looks.
Shouldn't be an issue if it was a quality job, but this it never hurts to let a competent gunsmith take a look.
You certain it's a moon clip cut and not a chamfer?
As for moon clips themselves, provided the gun can shoot with or without them (yours should, but some models, like the 940, can't), I think they're a great addition for fast reloads and easy extraction -- just be careful not to bend the clips, they're delicate.
