Default New to me, Model 33-1

Picked this 33-1 up today, Serial R147XX.

Original grips, matching serial #'s. A speck or two of rust just inside the barrel, and one of the flutes has a little bit of discoloration.

Still, not disappointed with the find.

Nice find! They are neat little revolvers, just something about a four inch J frame. I found a 62 vintage one NIB a few years ago and it dident stay that way for long!

I have a 4" model 33-1 also. I love shooting it. It's a hoot with the smaller cartridge. It's like shooting a 380 out of a revolver. It's a great revolver design, and very easy to carry and conceal. I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. It's a great find and there aren't too many of them floating around.

Regards,
Gearchecker

Looks great and the few minor issues makes it so much easier to shoot. Solid S&W there.

Where do you find the ammo for the 33-1? I'd like to put a few rounds through her.

The .38 S&W is still being made by US and offshore companys and although not stocked by many shops anymore any gunshop can order you some in. Prepare for a bit of sticker shock though, as a low volume sales round it is a bit pricey. I reload for mine and as had been said it is a hoot to shoot.

I bought 38 S&W from internet site "Ammo to Go" for less than $20 a box. The postage was about equal to the sales tax I would have paid locally. My revolver is a pre-33 I frame.

I have a 33-1 also. The -1 means your gun is built on the J-frame. It's descriptive name is the .38 Regulation Police. It came to me NIB and with target stocks. As stated before, the ammo, while harder to find than .38 special, is still available. I reload for mine, so it's not an issue. Here's mine from 1970:

I also have it's grandfather, a third month of production .38 Regulation Police from June, 1917. The pre-war guns are marked "Regulation Police" on the barrel. It's bulit on the slightly shorter I-frame. For those not familar with them, the stocks are round to square butt conversions, as the pre-war guns were all round butts underneath the stocks. Here's some pics:
