Default POI cast lead vs jacketed bullets

I am finding that the POI of cast lead bullets with or without gas checks is several inches away--usually to the right and lower--than similar loads with jacketed bullets. This I first noticed in my 6 inch 629...then my other 629, then a 66, then a 500. And today with a 67 using 3 different weights of SWCs.... Have others noticed the same?

I really cant say I have the same issues, all I do know is that only one revolver I ever owned shot jacketed bullets better than cast, all my handguns now, whether my Smith revolvers or my Colt love cast bullets. I don't even buy bullets anymore.

+1 on that. I only shoot cast lead SWCs in my Smiths and POI=POA as best I can tell.

In my experience, I've never shot better with jacketed bullets.

My guess: the J and JHP ammo is usually lighter (say 125 vs 158), the lighter loads are usually 'hotter' - loaded with more powder. Unless the weights of the bullets are identical, I would attribute any shooting difference to the technique - especially - heeling, anticipating the recoil, or follow-through. Again, I'm just guessing...

Cast bullets are "slicker" and actually come out of the barrel a little faster, but usually not enough that you should notice large difference in POI. If you are loading using jacketed bullet data, the cast bullet will usually shoot faster and therefore impact target lower.

I find cast bullets to be more accurate, and hand-loading lets you get the ultimate accuracy out of your loads.
