I'm a model 28-3 guy so I don't know much about model 19's other than they are quite good

What are you thoughts? And what $ is it worth?

Lots of variables that we don't know to give a very accurate answer. Does it come with original box and papers? What engineering change model is it? etc. Also, how rare are Model 19s in New Zealand?? In general, I agree that Model 19s are quite good! In the US, 6" models tend to bring a little less than the shorter barrels. No original grips probably knocks close to $100 off the price. I'm guessing it is probably a great shooter but not worth more than $400-$450.

I can get scuffed up shooters here all day for $400, if it's 98%, I would pay up to $500 personally, some would pay a lot more.

Thanks guys. I don't think it's got the box. And I have my "looks like new" model 28-3, so I'll only buy it if it's a real bargain.

I don't have a 28 but if you like those there isn't much to dislike about a 19...or any K frame for that matter.

Other then it's not an N frame and the recoil is a lot more in the same barrel length in a K frame. As far as it being a S&W revolver the amount of like would be the same as they are both fine revolvers.

Yeah, the M19's are OK! lol From what I have seen recently, they are a very hot item. In the M19's, the shorter the barrel, the higher the price. I know that is nothing new, but OP is looking at a 6", so, depending on condition, $575 and UP. Just a guess!

In the past couple years I have found two nice 6" 19-3s for around $525 otd. I still have one of them, and it is a great shooter. I run mostly mild .38 Specials through it. There is a risk of getting a powder ring in the chamber, but Brownells sell steel chamber brushes which solve that problem.

I have a nice 27-2 as well. There is no doubt the N frame soaks up the recoil of .357 much better than the K frame. The K frame is easier to hold up for the 300-500 range session marathons.

I don't own an N frame for no other reason than the grip is just a little too big for my hand. N's are beautiful guns but the L's and K's fit me better. That's the great thing about Smith...no matter your preferences they make a gun to fit.

I'm new here but I feel a lot better about the 19-3 that I just bought. The only wear showing is on the very end of the right side of the barrel and very slight wear on the cylinder I paid 575.00, just the gun and it has rubber grips that I don't know if there original. How do I tell on the Grips if they are original or not. Thanks alot from a newbie

The 19-3 never came with rubber grips. Gotta be aftermarket.

I'd say a 6" 19 would be worth about $500 to me. But I'm not a huge fan of 6 inchers.

It's a great gun. And the 19 has a lot fans, but considerably less so in the 6". The 2.5", 3" and 4" is what most people would be after.
