Default Model 57 .41 magnum

I have just acquired an S&W in .41 magnum in a wooden box. It is in as new condition, pinned barrel with recessed chambers. Its serial number is N606469. Can anyone give me a date of manufacture? The box is missing all it tools except the "mop" Can the missing items be purchased from anywhere? S&W don't supply them any more. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Forum.
It was born in 1980, according to the Catalog. I have one about that age with a 4" barrel. One of my favorite revolvers. What is the barrel length on yours?

Great caliber, if you reload. If you don't, it may prove expensive to feed your 57. In any event, it is a great gun. Tools of that vintage appear frequently on Ebay.

I have 41 and 44 magnum Smiths. I like the 41 caliber more, not that it is better just a little unique. As mentioned, handloading is the way to go if you shoot often.

Default Barrel length and tools

You didn't mention barrel length of your M57...4"? 6"? I saw a set of unopened 4" tools the other day on eBay. I also just picked up an unopened set of 6" tools on the S&W Forum- I posted in "Wanted to Buy". You can also find 4-page manuals and other paperwork occasionally online or at gun shows. I had a 4" Model 57 that I bought new in the presentation box in 1978, and it was a great shooter. I reloaded and it was very economical. Unfortunately it was stolen a couple of years later and never recovered. For some reason, although I have many Model 27s, Model 28s, and Model 29s, I've never bought another Model 57. Great gun and great caliber...hmmm, maybe it's time to expand the collection! Good luck with the tools.

Congrats on the 57! My favorite revolver in my favorite caliber. Like others have said you should be able to find tools on eBay or gun broker.

Mops should be available at about any store that carries gun cleaning supplies. It may not be the exact original but would certainly be a good substitute. Others here may have information on exactly what to look for....and congratulations on a great gun!

Thanks for all the replies. What a great bunch of people you all are. My revolver has a 6" barrel. I am in New Zealand. Yes we can own handgun here, not too difficult either. We can't carry them, but can shoot them in a club situation. I intend to shoot this gun, but not much as it is in such good condition. I will keep looking for the tools where you have suggested. Thanks again.

I just traded for an unfired 8 3/8 bbl model 57 in the case with all the tools. 1976 vintage. Ammo at the LGS was 78.00 for a box of 50. I am reloading for it and casting bullets already. Welcome to the forum!

Default Pictures???

BTW Camarino...when you post about guns in this Forum, we like to see pictures! Some of our members won't respond unless they can see what you're bragging, I mean talking, about.
