Default Should adjustable sight guns have Target Grips?

To each his own, but the bulk of adjustable sights just needs a beefy wooden target grip to go with it:

Not necessarily - the Model 28 has always come standard with checkered Magnas.

^ hehe, personally, the 4 inch M-28 is the one exception I make to that. Only because N frame grips are so big anyway. But, to me, a 6 inch M-28 still needs the Target grips.

Hand size and personal preference mean everything. I do not have any revolver wearing magnas. I recently sold off a nice set of N's because I had no need for them.
I like the look of targets much better, and they fit my hand. I just got a set of K smooth presentation targets dirt cheap. They really shine, even though they have some flaws. Bob

I have never warmed to the S&W magna grips so all of my S&W revolvers have either target grips or S&W combat grips on them.

All S&W revolvers K frame and larger, should have targets grips.

Can't abide magnas. Rough on my hands.

Does this mean guns with fixed sights can NOT have target stocks?

I have rather large hands, so I agree with you for the most part. I prefer to run factory target stocks on all my Smiths with adjustable sights. The exception is revolvers with 3" or shorter barrels or those with round butts. My 2" model 15 looks ridiculous with target stocks so I have magnas on it. For the round butt guns with barrels longer than 3", I like the Hogue round to square butt conversion stocks.

Even though I have large hands, all my K frame revolvers work better for me with magnas and a grip adapter. My Model 18, a recent aquisition, had a beautiful set of S&W oversized grips. I took them off and replaced them with magnas and a grip adapter.

I tried grip adapters on 2 guns with magnas. Did nothing for me, except they looked retro cool! Bob

Back when I got on the PD, you had to have some sort of target grip to achieve the "look." About 5 years on, I got a brass butt plate with my badge number engraved on it for my Model 66... I thought I was SO cool...

My hands must be smaller, the target grips on "K" or "N" frames are just too big near the bottom with target grips.
Look nice....
Eather Mag's or Goodyear for shooting for me...

I have short fingers, so magna's work great for me. even my #586-2 has magna's. I dont like target grips. That is one thing that I love about Smiths, is that you can have either style of grip. lots of guns, keep you pretty much with what they came with.

Always thought 'target' stocks had thumb rests and other features.

Adjustable sights have no place on a fightin' sixgun.

I generally like target stocks, or similar designs, for the magnums. It really does not have much to do with adjustable sights - more about recoil, how much I plan to shoot the particular gun, and how it will be carried. I get along pretty well with almost any type of stocks on .22s, .32s, and .38s. My 44 Mountain Gun has magnas, though I do not shoot it a lot with those stocks on it. They are mainly there as result of a desire for compactness, for carrying purposes.

I do think target stocks look a little out of place on fixed-sight guns, but comfort and hitting beat nitpicking aesthetics any time.
