What revolver do you own that has been with you thru out your life. The one you have used thru life and even with you in harms way. Any history? And you still have it!

H&R mod 999 Sportsman my grandfather purchased in 1931! Next oldest is a used S&W mod. 60 that my wife purchased for me from J&G as a graduation gift in 1979 when I finished the 2-year gunsmithing program at Oregon Tech. John

Model 34 kit gun bought new in 1972/73 or a stainless mod 60 bought new around same time. Just after I got out of the Army. Still got both with the boxes.

M-66-3, four-inch, bought new in 1990 and carried on the job until Feb. of this year. (I retired.) Older ones were lost in a divorce and when I was out of work.

At times, I used instead a Manurhin MR-73 or a Ruger DA, but 95% of the time, I wore that M-66-3. I love it. It has the graceful lines of a Victoria's Secret spokesmodel and has been absolutely reliable and dead accurate.

BTW, my FIRST handgun was a Webley MK VI bought for me by my mother when I was 13. First S&W was a .455 MK II bought when I was 19. A Colt M-1917 came in between. But no Colt revolver has ever REALLY come "between" me and my S&W's!

686 I bought in 1984. Still one of my most used favorite range guns. Did O.K. in PPC with it until I switched to a Gold Cup.

Model 15-2, purchased new in San Clemente, Calif in 1962 shortly after arriving at Camp Pendleton for my first duty as a Rifle Platoon Commander, E Co, 2nd Bn, 7th Marines.
Paid $85 for it.
In those days one could get a free box of 45ACP, 38 Spec or 22LR every day from the armory.
We shot alot.
Carried it overseas a time or two, but it is still in 90+ % shape.

I was given a Model 10-5 by my Dad in 1986. I had owned several S&W revolvers longer but I sold them along the way when I became all into 1911's. Most of my current S&W revolvers I bought in the past 5 years and 95% of those were made before 1982.

Traded 2 .22's, a .25acp and my 19-3 that I brought with me to Florida for this in 1980. And no, I couldn't have kept the 19 and bought this, one of a very few "gun regrets." Joe

I still have, and shoot, the 38 Special M&P my father bought before WWII. He carried it throughout his Army career and I carried it for a few years when I was a junior officer in the USCG. I also have the Model 17-2 my Dad and I jointly bought for Christmas when I was 16. Purchase price was $66.00.

I have a 442-1 .38 snubbie that I pocket carry almost every day. I got it in 1997 when I became a cop and I carried it as a backup every day for 7 years.

Talking First Revolver

Did not get into handguns until 1982. Grew up hunting with a single shot 12ga handed down to me at age 13 from my Dad. He got it from his great uncle, a Nitro Hunter with last patent date of 1891. I still have it and shutter at the risk we took in the swamps of Louisiana just shooting it. Before I left for Alaska in 1992 I knew that I would be in "Grizzz" country and figured a good revolver was mandatory, so a Ruger Redhawk .44 mag with 5" barrel came into my life (that was before my Smith obsession). It was my "best friend" for the many, many trips into the bush. I carried it for 8 years and its still with me. It is the one gun that will be engraved with "ALASKA 1992-2000" on it and handed down to my sons.

That’s a easy one my Ruger Security Six .357 4’’.

I started in 1970 to get my Albany version of the NYS-CCWP. The powers to be threw as much legal red tape and other nonsense in my path as they could, but I keep on plugging along.

In 1972 I got a letter from the court saying my permit would be signed in the next few weeks. I took myself down to a fellow club member who had a legitimate gun shop in his basement and was going to see about getting a Model 19 S&W.

He did not have any in stock, but said he had one of the new Ruger SS coming in tomorrow. I gave him $50 to hold till I could see the gun and a couple days later I bought and paid for it. Still had to wait a couple weeks till my permit came in to take the Ruger home. Did some action work and it’s a fine shooter.

My Model 29 has been with me since S&W-Day1. No real absorbing history to relate, and no "harm's way" stuff - unless you count successfully withstanding a charge by a groundhog (which we both survived). Next came a Model 36, seven l-o-n-g years later. Still have both.

My revolver that I've had the longest is a Pre Model 15 bought by my Dad new in 1952. I borrowed this revolver when I first went into LE, until I could afford to purchase my own. I got it when Dad passed, and I will never give it up. I shot it recently, and it stills puts the wadcutters in the 9, 10, X-rings as well as my new Model 67. It's getting a little long in the tooth now with a patina starting to appear around the edges. It is the gun I love the most, and would not have any problems if forced to use it in defense of home and hearth.

Bought this in '71 and it was my CCW for 30+ years.

Now CCW is a 642-1 or my LCP.

My first revolver was a Ruger Security Six (.357 magnum). I sold it a long time ago. I didn't get back into revolvers until about 5 years ago. I bought a real nice model 17 no dash. It was the beginning of a disease.

My gun that I have owned the longest, and has been with me for the last 34 years, is my S&W model 28-2. My Father bought this gun for me, so this one has been very special to me. For me, this revolver will be the last I would ever part with.....Ray

Probably my former duty-issued c.1981 M66 4" that I purchased from my department when they switched to autos (M1076's) in about 1990.

It got me through a deadly-force incident and is in good shape still, although it now has a case report number electro-engraved on the grip-frame. Saved my bacon. It'll be a hard one to part with.....

I've no pictures but it is a octagon barrel H&R Trapper .22 caliber my pops helped me buy used in 1963, not sure but I'm thinking it cost me $11.00 bucks and the guy at the hardware store threw in a box of Winchester, to sweeten the deal.

Still have it and still shoot it on occasion... It makes me smile every time I pull the trigger. The only time I ever used it to get out of harms way was shooting monster rats at the dump.

I have a K-22, Masterpiece Revolver, Model No. 17 (17-3) that I bought new on December 19, 1974, for $165.38. I still have the original purchase receipt.

The revolver was stolen from me in December 1984, by three teenage boys who burglarized the house. It was recovered in excellent condition and returned back to me approximately 11 months later. I still have it today and plan to pass it on to my daughter some day.

22/32 heavy target. I found out decades later that it was a very early Bekaert. By the serial # around 1912, number on butt of grip too. Paid $35 bucks at the time (1972 or so) at a sporting goods store in Seattle. Still have the receipt. Sweet shooter with standard velocity ammo.

In 1968, a week before I went into the Army my uncle gave me his High Standard Double Nine. I think he said he paid $35 for it in1960. His eyesight was failing and wouldn't be able to use it any longer. The trigger pull in double action is terrible but in single action you can drive tacks with it.

The revolver I have had longest is my Model 40 bought around 1971 or 1972. It was not my first Model 40, but I had the sense to keep this one. I have others, as well.

My first revolver was given to me by my dad in 1978. He was not doing well and wanted me to have it. My dad bought the gun, to the best of his recollection in 1957, used. It was shipped in May 11, 1956. I cannot remember my dad not having his Pre-Model 30, I frame. I thought it was older. Started me on my search for Smiths in 1979. Still searching today.

625-2 purchased new in '88 or '89. No real history other than putting the hurt on countless x-rings...

My M 19-3 was issued to me in 1974 by my first department, we've shared an adventure or two over the years.

I got my Dad's Police Positive 38 Spec. (Mfg. 1917) about 1965. Don't shoot it anymore but keep it loaded as a backup, backup. It is in good shape for it's age, just needs a pair of the original grips.

High Standard double nine for me. Nine shot double action with western styling. I still have it. Very accurate but the trigger is nothing short of terrible.

circa 1977 Colt Det. Spc. I bought in 1987 in excelent shape...I had others but this is the earliest one that wasn't sold off or traded...

put in a lot of range time with it, and took it coast to coast with me for a good 15 years on road trips...there was a night in Jackson, Mississippi when I was glad to have it (even a cop looked at me funny as he was passing by, I had stopped in the wrong part of town to fuel up)...an early morning once in El Paso at a car wash too...nothing hairy, just nice to have known it was there...

Mine is a 2 1/2" model 66 that I bought around 1983 or so. I carried it as a back up and off duty for a number of years, and used it in a shoot out against a hold up man in 1989. I won, he lost. It sat in the property room for about a year before I got it back. I spent ridiculous amounts of money having it engraved when I got it back, and it now holds place of honor in my safe most of the time.

My 629-1 purchased in the early 1980's after reading a review in one of the gun mags. It has accounted for more then a few Michigan whitetails and a lot of paper.

My oldest is a S&W 18-3 I think I bought new in 1978. It isn't going any where till after I am in the ground. Lesson learned as I wished my 27, 29, 60 and 19 were still living with me.

4" nickel mld. 19. Purchased NIB in 1975 for $225.00. Killed a big 8 point buck with it and one of my cast bullets. In 1986 busted the forcing cone while shooting it. Purchased another 4" nickel barrel and swapped it out. Still have it. Don't shoot it much anymore.

My first handgun and the firearm I've had the longest is a Ruger Stainless Security Six in 357 mag/38 special with a 4" barrel. It was manufactured in 1976 and has the "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty" logo stamped on the frame. I purchased it new in 1977, have been the sole owner, and will only get rid of it when I pass down to my son. Funny thing is that I have four sets of grips that I use for it, inculuding the original factory service grips as well as a set of Ruger target grips I just bought from the company last month.

My oldest and longest owned pistol is a Colt SAA in .45 colt. It has a 4"bbl and has the wood grips that Colt put on some of their pistols. I picked it up in 1972, it was made in 1958. Nice gun but I don't shoot it much any more. I like to shoot Smiths.

Longest owned,,a Webley MkVI I think. Had to think about it a while. I sold or traded earlier ones off, this is the earliest handgun purchase I can think of that I've managed to hold on to.
Still in .455, 1918 mfg, and came with the holster and belt & a few loose Kynoch cordite rounds from a guy trolling a gun show w/ it for sale. Said it was his Grandfathers revolver from WW1,,never knew if it was true or not as there's always a story it seems with an old military pistol. IIRC there's a name on the leather somewhere.

I offered him $65 for it. He said he'd think about it and walked around some more. Came back later and asked if I was still interested @ $65. I was. That was in the mid 70's I think.
Most figured I was crazy to spend that for a Webley. I kind of liked them. Still have it so I guess I do.

I shoot it once in a while, no storys of defending against hostiles or anything like that..
