Reason: added pictures
I have an old pre-27 3 1/2" bbl. around here somewhere. It came with regular hammer, trigger and front sight along with magna grips. Target stocks do look a little out of place on a short-barreled revolver but, I guess it could have came that way if you ordered it.
Here are a couple of pics of my Model 27-2 with a 6" bbl. (shipped in 1976) and all original target grips, hammer, trigger and a patridge front sight. Great shooting revolver and I am sure you will love yours also.
Thanks for the photo. Beautiful. Mine is as nice, (in wood box) with the other styled front site, no insert. Is there a difference between 1975-1978's? I will now learn how to post a picture to share.
I am not sure about the "differences" between 1975-1978 models but there was a difference in the front sight between 6" bbls and shorter ones and the non-red insert ramped front sight is what I have seen on the shorter barreled ones. All I have ever seen on a 6" bbl. model is a Patridge-type front sight but they might have come with other ones also.
Thanks for the compliment on my Model 27 and I am looking forward to seeing yours.
Added 1 more. Previous was the model 27-2 I asked about and Texas Rangers 150 year commerative. Only commissioned special gun by S&W. Not state of Texas. The new one is a Gold Cup Elite (80's enhanced) and its S&W counterpart 745. Both pristine.

That is funny to me as I do not know how to post thumbnail pics! I put my photos on my computer then transfer the photos I like to a "hosting" site. I use Photobucket and make them all 800x600 using the transfer tool. Then left click on the last url on the picture and select "copy" and right click in the S&W reply box and select "paste".
The picture will transfer. Select "preview post" to see the post and the picture will be there.
Kind of a confusing explanation but pretty easy to do after you do it a few times.
