2 more Austin Police Revolvers
Last week I posted that a 38/44 Heavy Duty marked Austin Police popped into my life. This past Friday the telephone rang, on the other end was a friend who asked me If I would be interested in 2 Austin Police marked revolvers.
The first is such a special find due to the fact that only 10 of these fine revolvers were purchased by APD specifically for the Homicide unit. In 1980 the Austin Police Department had 8 Detectives in our Homicide Unit, including a Sergeant and a Lieutenant. Ten 66-1's, with a 2 1/2" barrel were ordered for these employees, this gun is marked "Austin P.D. 10".
The second is a 10-5 with a 2" barrel which is marked "APD 130".
I am very proud to add these fine revolvers to my collection of APD guns.

Bet those guns witnessed the consumption of a lot of donuts! 
The sq. butt K-frame snubs never made much sense to me, but the rnd. butt M-66 is a nice gun, very well suited to its assignment in this case.
I'm sure those detectives got backup and/or employed shotguns when making arrests of suspected murderers.
Any idea of what the issued/authorized ammo was?
I'm surprised that only 10 guns were ordered? What'd happen if someone retired, changed assignments, or they just hired other homicide personnel? Could retiring detectives buy their issued guns?
That's not an issue where I live, as the cops all buy their guns, although the department pretty much now insists on SIG's for new hires and makes them available at nice prices.

Very nice. I really like law enforcement revolvers. Something about them being from Texas makes them even more special.
