I'm pretty sure that is an improvement.
Are you going to shoot it? Or is it too purdy now?

I think you did great considering the condition before. Mind if I ask what the refinish set you back?

That looks great. What did someone do, drag that poor thing behind a truck? Sad to see such a beautiful gun in that sort of condition. YOu did the right thing on that one for sure!

That is a big improvement. I would also like to know what they charge for a reblue.

That's how I got my first 27 back in 1975. They were unobtainable then at any cost. I found a Maine State Warden's gun that was beat to death and sent it to Smith for a refurb. It came back looking like new.

I will definitely be shooting it and the cost for high polish blue from S&W is $250.00.
I've got a set of no bark stags from Grashorn and a Tyler T Grip waiting at home for her also.

I also think that the the reblue was a good choice. Unless a gun is very rare and valuable I see little need to leave it with a severly damaged finish.

Beautiful!!!! Get the factory letter, it should trade close to top dollar for many people, except the purist crowd.

This is one of those cases where I think you did right by bringing that 27 back to life - and, at that price, it didn't hurt too much. Thanks,
Jerry

Now, that is a nice blue job that makes it like new.
May have to consider that the next time on one of my Smith's.

Outstanding. Glad you brought one back from the dead.
Have fun showing it off and shooting it.

Home run! The 5" Ns look so right. And that looks positively righteous.
May it serve you well.

Some believe that
"Beauty is only skin deep...But ugly goes clean to the bone"....
Seriously thats a night and day difference and definately money well spent as now you wont lay in bed at night thinking about it.
May I ask does it show any signs of the previouse pitting when held to the light ?
Just like painting a car the hard part is in the prep work and your gun needed alot of prep work.
On a side note there was a post recently where a member refinished a Model 36 cylinder to remove some pitting and it came out nearly perfect
but again the prep work is the hardest part.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I am very pleased with the way this turned out.
It's hard to believe looking at the before pictures but there was no serious pitting on the pistol prior to refinish and absolutely no evidence of anything after refinish. Here's a picture of the finished product with the stags and Tyler T Grip.

Great outcome SRG. A few years back I did this exact thing to a '67 M27-2 3.5" that was marked "Utah Highway Patrol". When I got it it had 10% finish left and mechanically non-functioning. After The S&W P.C. did their magic, both form (bright blue finish) and function, the old trooper is one of my top tier shooters and also a beauty queen.
We both had money well spent.
