Pretty happy with my 4" 29-2 nickel gun (new pic added)
I bought this sucker over my cell phone on the way to a family gathering. It had just been listed on GB with a low Buy-It-Now price. The pictures weren't great, but I called the seller and the gun sounded pretty clean. I finally got the gun today, and I'm pretty happy. I realize that the insert is wrong on the presentation box. It came with some aftermarket wood presentation grips that are pretty nice (not the ones in the pic below), a Safariland leather holster, tools, all paperwork, and a gray box without a label. I have another gun that shipped with a presentation box and the cardboard 2-piece box for it was not labeled either. The gun is very clean. I was worried that it would be scratched up, etc. Not so. It's really nice.
The only bummer is that the factory S&W target grips that shipped with the gun have a very noticeable chip in them. The gun is wearing my Kuracs in the photo. I sent the seller an email to see what he's willing to do about it. I got a pretty good deal on the gun, but I don't feel like I should have to pay for a set of target grips that don't have a chip. The chip wasn't mentioned in the listing and there weren't any photos that showed the grips well. The gun was wearing the aftermarket grips in the listing.
Gun is serial numbered N627XXX, so it probably shipped between 1979 to 1980.

Very nice find. Hard to go wrong with a nickel M29-2 AND a set of Kurac's. I know, I have one. Really great looking piece. Good luck with getting some sort of refund on the chipped targets.

Thank you.
Nice gun! They do look good with Kuracs.
The seller is refunding some money to offset the cost of buying undamaged grips. I may have a set in my safe somewhere.
Anybody got a liner for a 4" presentation box?

We serriously NEED a "tongue hanging out" icon.
My wife said "You can buy one like that FOR ME!"
She's been getting downright uppity these days. I'm going to have to take back that new pair of shoes I bought her.

You should break down and get one for her. I'm guessing she likes the maple grips best. They do look nice.

I found an old set of target stocks in my safe. Forgot that I had them. They aren't real pretty, but they are the correct type. I'll eventually replace them with a nicer set.
This post isn't gathering much interest. I always take pics on a stupid blanket, so I thought I'd dress this one up with some rocks. Now, it looks like a stupid pic with rocks scattered around. Oh, well.
BTW, I believe the rocks are all from one of our trips to New Mexico. We have lots of rocks around our house that we've picked up on vacations.

Nah, that particular Smith looks good no matter what is around it. The original stocks that you have look good, but I liked the Kurac stocks better. Just my opinion.

Thanks, guys.
Does anyone know what these grips are pictured below? They were sold with this gun as well as the chipped S&W stocks. I was told that they were aftermarket grips of some sort. There's no S&W logo, just a blank "brass" button.
The seller's photos were pretty fuzzy, so I called them before I bought the gun.

Did you polish your gun with Flitz, or something similar? Yours looks spotless. How did you do it?

I think it is a fine looking gun in a barrel length I like.
As far as stocks for it....were it mine I'd be hunting down some Rosewood
I just like the contrast

How much for the liner?
Very nice gun. It would appear that my cleaning rod is a bit long. I'm not sure how that happened unless at some point S&W was sending longer ones.

Here's a 4 inch Nickel 29-1. Same gun as a -2 except for the model stamp.

Yeah, the rocks didn't really work. It was a nice try. Maybe I can do something with fruit.
Thanks for the comment on the gun.

Beautiful 29. And the 4" is my favorite for
the model. Those grips you guys are showing
off are fantastic. Congrats on a great weapon.

Nice gun. Many of us would like one of them. If you shoot it, be sure to let us have detailed range report.

OK here's the original case too. But, you are right, Joe C. has taken care of several of my case needs. None better.

Found a presentation box with the plastic insert that I think is correct for this gun (relined with red felt). I also bought an unopened set of tools and a nicer set of grips from a 29-2 of the same year. This should complete the set. I'll keep the other presentation box for my older 4" 29-2.

Thanks!
Is the gray box of any value? It doesn't have a label on it. I believe it shipped with this gun and the original wood presentation box. It has the number 29 handwritten on the end of the box.
