Default Questions about 38 Special

I have a 38 Special revolver I inherited from my Father in Law. There are two numbers on it: One on the bottom of the grip: K 205800. And the other is inside the yoke (when the cylinder is open) : 9116 4.

Which is the model # and which is the serial number?

How can I find out the date of manufacture?

How can I get manual?

Thanks,

The seriel # is the K205800. Don't have info to date that number on me. It appears to be a Combat Masterpiece, a.k.a. model 15.

First off, welcome to the Forum.
Your Combat Masterpiece was made in 1953. In 1957 S&W gave all revolvers model numbers, and that one became the M15. The serial number is the one on the bottom of the butt.
Looks like a nice one, I'd shoot it.

Add my welcome to the forum.
On your Combat Masterpiece revolver its likely that the stocks are numbered to the gun.
So, if you must add rubber grips be sure to keep the originals in a safe place!

Thanks. I do plan to shoot it as soon as I can pick up a cleaning kit and some rounds. (Along with the 70+ year old Ranger 22 (Marlin 80), I inherited from my grandfather).

Ok thanks, I plan to keep it in its original condition. I seem to remember my wife saying that the grips were specially selected for someone with small hands.
