APD M-10 Pawn Shop Find
Today I found this Smith M10-5 marked APD 135 in an East Austin pawn shop. What makes this find special, this pawn shop is located in my old patrol district (Frank 2). The revolver is still in very good condition, stocks a little dark and cracked on the left side, but number to the gun. An East Austin pawn shop is no place for a Smith such as this.

Very cool!
What variant (i.e. 10-5) is it?

Nice! I traded for one in a Yoakum pawn shop just like it sans the IPD marking a few weeks ago with target stocks on it!

I got a 66-1 marked APD 146 similar markings to yours. I was told by someone on here it was likely Asheville, NC PD

So: are you gonna Superglue that grip together or look for new ones that fit your frame just right? A snub gun with sq. butt looks bad with Pachmayr grips...too bulky for a snub's perceived role.
You could sand off the worn checkering and refinish the grips and use a Tyler adaptor.
If it isn't impertinent to ask, what'd you have to pay?

Texas Star,
I have a pair of correct replacement stocks for it. However I respect the fact that all the owners before me saw fit to keep the original stocks, so sometime in the future I will have these repaired, spend a few extra bucks to keep it all correct.
As for the price, the little Mexican girl behind the counter was firm at #349.95, I gladly paid her.

Here's another Model 10-5 snubnose, this one marked as formerly the property of the Mohave Co. (Arizona) Sheriff's Office. I "saved" it after watching it languish in the case of a Tucson pawn shop for the better part of a year before I was able to cut a deal on it.
Edit: I forgot to mention that like the gun with which this thread started, this has retrained its matching stocks, which is certainly not always the case with law enforcement agency issued S&W revolvers.

Nothing says working gun like a PD marked Model 10. Congratulations on those pawn shop finds!

Here's my 10-5 snubbie. (Not a police gun)
Currently wearing rosewood grips by Altamont and a Tyler T-grip, but I still have the original stocks.
She shoots as good as she looks.

I agree, all K Frame snubbies need to be adopted. This one's a 1957 K38, (Pre 10).
