Gun Show Finds
I'm posting in this forum because I want to show guns from two different eras. I will make individual posts in the correct revolver forums later.
First, I found a 3 1/2" .32 DA 4th Model (c. 1885) in excellent nickel finish condition. The pictures don't begin to show the condition of this gun. The grips are immaculate and the gun appears to have never been fired. Serial # is 607XX.
Next, is a Model 34-1 Kit Gun from around 1960. I'm a little confused about the date because the SCSW says J frame guns began shipping at serial # 70,000 and my gun is 076XX. I wonder if that is a factor of 10 error in SCSW or if I have one of the improved I frame guns? Anyway, the owner bought the gun originally for a CCW gun for his wife. He says he may have the original stocks and box/papers if he hasn't thrown them out. He only lives a few miles from me so it won't be a problem picking them up...hopefully. The gun is in excellent condition. He said every few years he would make his wife take the gun out and shoot it. So, it hasn't been shot much.
Anyway, I feel like I had a good day at the show...even if I didn't get the Combat Masterpiece I really wanted.

I'm not really sure why this post was moved here since both of these guns are prior to 1961, AFAIK. However, I will still appreciate input on the shipping date of the Kit Gun. And, I will post more pictures of each gun in the appropriate forum later.

That kit gun makes the DA .32 look even teenier.

That DA .32 is so tiny it seems like a cap gun . It is the tiniest gun I have ever held except for a derringer. Folks back then must have had very small hands.

I knew you was thinking hard about that mod 34. I'm glad you got it. It's a shame that one dealer would not get right on that CM for either one of us. Maybe after he sits on it awhile he will get his mind right. Once again, I'm glad I met you today. I'll be looking out for you at the next show there in Dec. Oh yeah, them are Herrit stocks on your .22, I like them a lot.

Yeah, Combat, he was a fool for turning down your trade offer. I suspect that the price has gone up on the CM today.
Turns out the seller of the 34 is from a local family that knew my dad well. He came down quite a bit on the price and I couldn't turn it down. The gun is pristine even without the original stocks.
I'm also glad we met. Seems like not too many fora folk are from around here. See you in Dec.

How much was he asking for the CM,and was it a .22 or a .38? Just curious.

It was a .38 and the last price he had on it was $590 but he wasn't selling it for that because several potential buyers made him offers above that value.

Because I thought you would get help quicker here, and we try to avoid S&W SPECIFIC threads in The Lounge.
On the 34, you must be reading the assembly number.
076XX is not likely to be a valid serial number.
Have you pulled the grips and checked the number on the butt?

Yes, I'm having an ID 10 T error. I did look at the butt and the same number was stamped there on the right side of the frame just as in the crane so I just put the grips back on. On the BOTTOM is serial # 1333XX (beats fist with forehead).
So, I'm still not in the right forum. Should be mid-60s. Apologies. Thanks for keeping me straight.
