George Lawrence Holster - size chart needed

anyone have a .pdf size chart for George Lawrence holsters?

thanks in advance

-db- 10-03-2012 08:37 PM

I spent an hour or two looking online for exactly the same thing yesterday and had no luck. Digital Lawrence catalogs exist but they're available only as pay-to-download purchases: Antique Books and Catalogs in Downloadable PDF Format

Until someone uploads and hosts free versions, that's about all there is out there right now. However, if you're researching a specific holster and want to know what the code on the back refers to fit-wise, you can always post the fit code here and someone may look it up in a print catalog and let you know what you have. Good luck.

I have several old Lawrence catalogs. If you give me the holster information you have, I can see if I can find what you want.

Can anyone tell me what a Lawrence 621 in size 1-C was designed to fit please. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

bentcam 12-26-2012 02:10 PM

my chart shows 621 for a colt python 4 inch. nothing for c-1. sorry.

turnerriver 12-26-2012 06:37 PM

1 C is the holster model number. It is the Challenger model- Lawrence's budget
line holster, stocked in popular sizes.

Thanks for the info guys. I did find what the 1C meant by pulling out my 1959 Shooter's Bible. Size was still a question mark. The 4" Python works because my little brother had one in high school many decades ago. This holster was in the family gun cabinet. I was hoping it would work on a Model 28 4". A little too tight though.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and found you guys via a google search. Over the holidays my grandfather gave me an old holster he had in his gunsafe. It is a beautiful Lawrence Floral pattern holster. I have a couple of Colt SA replica type guns and it seems like they kind of fit it right. I was wondering if one of you guys may be able to tell me exactly what gun this holster is supposed to be for.

The upper number is 25LF, below that is the Lawrence Insignia, below that is the number 9, and below that the number 6

Thanks in advance for any help!

turnerriver 01-06-2013 10:28 AM

Your holster was made for a group 9 revolver with a 6" barrel.
These included the Colt Police Positive, various Harrington & Richardson
& Iver Johnson revolvers & the S&W kit gun & Regulation Police frames.
The holster was made post WW II before 1963.

turnerriver

Thanks again Turnerriver - this gentleman answered my question twice, on this forum and the Colt forum. It's great finding people who don't mind helping out and sharing some information.

George Lawrence holster size

Hello, I'm looking for the size code for a 686 S&W 357mag holster from george lawrence. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

-db- 02-06-2013 10:39 PM

I think Lawrence was out of business by the time S&W L-frames arrived. You may want to look for one that fits Colt I-frames (Python, etc.), which would be a close fit.

turnerriver 02-08-2013 11:39 AM

db is correct- the George Lawrence Co. was out of business by the mid to late 1980's. a George Lawrence catalog dated 9/1/85 does not list the 586 or 686. The Lawrence Leather Co., owned I believe by Gould & Goodrich continued the line without "George" in the name. A 1990 catalog I have for that business lists a size code of 500 for a 4" 586 or 686 & 502 for 6" versions. The 8 3/8" 686 variant is size code 831.
Now, here's where db goes Yoda on us-500 is the old GL code for the 4" Colt Trooper & .357 model & 502 is the code for the 6" Trooper, .357, Officers Model Match & the Python. db, I bow before your superior Gun Sense. If that was a guess, it was a great one. In all seriousness, I get asked pretty regularly if a holster will fit a full lug revolver & I haven't been able to give an accurate answer. Thanks to you, db, now I can.
Regards,
turnerriver

-db- 02-08-2013 11:54 AM

John, thanks for the confirmation, it was just a guess on my part.

Golfbuddy45 06-10-2013 11:25 AM

I have a GEORGE LAWRENCE FLAP HOLSTER with BASKET WEAVE PATTERN number 14BLS over the George Lawrence name then a large 538 under the name. This came from an Estate and trying to identify it for them.

Thanks,

GB45

-db- 06-10-2013 11:42 AM

538 fits a 4" S&W Kit Gun.

My only S&W is a Custom 686 .357 Magnum so not to up on the various models. By KIT GUN do you mean one you build or is that just the name of the gun?

Thanks,

GB45

-db- 06-10-2013 12:11 PM

GB45, there is a lot of info on Kit Guns found in this thread: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-rev...4-63-22lr.html

If you're researching the holster with selling in mind, please consider listing it here as Lawrence holsters are of high quality and I'm sure there would be interest in one for a Kit Gun here.

Hi, I am new to the S&W forum and I see that the last post in this thread was on 06-10-2013. If anyone still accesses this thread and has information on George Lawrence holsters, I have the following holster and was wondering what gun it might fit...

99B
The George Lawrence Co.
Portland, Oregon
577

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tom

-db- 08-09-2013 11:45 PM

Tom, welcome to the forum. #577 fits a 6.5" Ruger .44 Magnum.

hotrod150 08-10-2013 12:52 AM

I've had a little luck loooking for information like this by googling to find a catalog or brochure for sale on ebay, the using the zoom/scroll around feature to read it.

George Lawrence Holster Info Please?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and would appreciate information about some George Lawrence holsters. I will be selling 3 holsters and a belt for my elderly father and want to have correct info before I start the auctions. The two I need info for are a 79X 603 and a 79X 686. I know they are the gunslinger model and the X refers to being left handed, but I'm not sure what guns they are for. I think the model 603 is for a Ruger .357 6 1/2" Blackhawk, but I might be wrong. The 686 I am even less sure (I think the 686 is coincidental to the S & W model 686). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Narragansett 08-22-2013 04:46 PM

I have a Geo. Lawrence #78 holster and 78 belt in size medium. The model I think is a Gunslinger 2. I bought it new in 78. It fits a Ruger Super blackhawk, and the belt is stamped 44 for 44mag. It is in mint condition. Lawrence products came through heavily oiled. Any idea what it is worth? I know the list price on it was over 200.00 I believe in 78. Thanks

bigbullytrailers 08-27-2013 01:28 PM

I have a George Lawrence shoulder holster with the numbers 782 stamped on it and a 8w & 7D above that, can any tell me what this fits ??
Thank You

TheShootist1894 02-21-2014 12:52 AM

Hate to resurrect this one, but anyone know what a Lawrence marked 8 over 591 shoulder rig might fit?

Thanks!

-db- 02-21-2014 09:39 AM

591 fits Beretta Puma and Cougar (old Cougar, not the new ones).

tipoc 02-21-2014 04:00 PM

This is a small Geo. Lawrence holster likely for a small .22

It is number marked 22 A and below that 4 1/2 I assume inches.

What was it designed for?

It also has a feature I've not seen on a Lawrence holster yet. Which is below. It looks like an anniversary emblem.

If you look closely, you can see the odd stamp at the top is covering up a stamped 25. This is the holster style. Why the overstamp, I don't know. 22 A denotes a 22 automatic and 4 1/2 is the barrel length, telling us the holster likely fits a High Standard or Colt Woodsman.

Thanks but it's just a matter of checking some charts a fellow forum member and holster expert (you guys know who that is, I'm sure) was kind enough to provide me with. :)

That was a part of my question above. The number "25" is in a completely different font and much sharper, than the standard stamped numbers as seen below in the model number and barrel length stamps. This led me to wonder if it was a "25th anniversary stamp" or some such. I haven't seen this type stamp from Lawrence before. But most likely a stamp done in error and stamped over as you surmise.

Lawrence 100 / 679 ?? Thanks, Paul s

StacyBelle 03-22-2014 11:50 PM

I hope someone with a G Lawrence catalog can help me. I have a 1C 523 holster and don't know what sort of gun might fit it. Thank you in advance.

-db- 03-23-2014 09:38 AM

523 = 2" Colt DS, Cobra, Agent

Paul, none of the charts I have go as high as 679. I assume yours is a more recent holster and the latest chart I have is from the mid-'60s.

StacyBelle 03-23-2014 06:14 PM

Thank you DB! You've been a great help.

turnerriver 03-24-2014 02:45 PM

679 is the size code for a Colt Frontier Scout or a New Frontier .22 SA revolver with a 4 3/4" barrel.
db is always ready with a helping hand.

I'm looking for a George Lawrence holster to fit my S&W 18-3 and one for my Ruger Security Six, anyone know the numbers or codes to look for? There are some on ebay, but nobody knows what guns they fit.............I've looked all over and can't find any info on them.....thanks for your time! :)

PasoJoy 03-31-2014 05:31 PM

Thanks for that :) The one I am looking at says 25, with a 38 and then a six...........I'm assuming the 38 is caliber, and 6 in barrel length, but not sure what the model 25 is.........so I know it won't fit my S&W, which is a 22, and it has a 4" barrel, and am assuming it won't fit my Security Six which IS a 6" barrel, but is a 357 cal, but not sure because that holster is just a two digit model number, not the three digit ones on your attachment..........I guess I will keep looking!!

turnerriver 04-01-2014 05:31 PM

25 is the holster model number, that model has been in the Lawrence line for many years and was made for any and all revolvers over the years. 38 6 usually indicated a M&P .38 Spl. Revolver with a 6" barrel. That size identifier was used before the three digit size code system, probably before WW II. It was probably not made for a revolver with target sights. The Ruger would probably not fit very well.
Regards,
turnerriver

PasoJoy 04-02-2014 11:45 AM

Thanks for that, Turnerriver, I appreciate the feedback.....so what the heck DOES fit my two? The Ruger came with a Bucheimer shoulder holster, which is a nice holster, but imo doesn't fit the gun and I'm not too keen on a shoulder holster anyways.......My S&W does have a holster that I had custom made, but I am always looking for more than one..........and I do like the looks of the GL holsters!! :)
