Default Crazy 25-2 Idea?

LGS called me that a customer wants to trade them a 25-2 with an issue.
The issue being that bubba converted it into a snub, with a hacksaw
Other than that little boo-boo, its in fine shape.
I can get the gun for $200 +/-.
Interestingly, in my parts box, is an in the white 25-2 barrel.
Having always coveted pintos, am pondering sending the gun to S&W to have the barrel installed and the gun finished as a pinto.
The musings of an idle mind, maybe...
...possibly slipping over to the dark side?

Don't know whether S&W will do that, but there are certainly others who will. I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. You may not even need to use your barrel, if you want something slightly shorter than Bubba did. You'll probably need to buy a front sight no matter what you do.

I would check with S&W first to see if they will work on a altered gun.

Buy the gun before someone else does and then work on repairs in your time.

I'd snatch that gun up, recrown the barrel and add a front sight. 25-2 SNUBBIE!

Smith will turn your Bubba gun into a Pinto if you have the barrel. They did a 586 for me for the price of the deluxe finish.

For that price grab it. Any N Frame regardless of a butchered barrel is worth well over that. Especially since you happen to have a barrel for it!!!

Boy I sure would like to see some before and after photos. Heck for $200 surely some one could to a barrel swap locally for you at a far cheaper price than what S&W would charge plus shipping.

I'll take it

Seriouly though, if you don't want it let me know where it is. I'd do as stated, crown the barrel and have a front sight installed, a cheapo Jovino. Oh, and round butt it.

Maybe I'd send it to Allenframe and have him make me a one of a kind

Talking

Like other have said buy it and either have S&W convert it to a pinto with your barrel or have your barrel blued and installed. Either way you will still be below market on a 25-2 and if made into a pinto you would have a very unique revolver.

NavyFrank, I have never seen a "pinto" 586. That is really neat.

I would not hesitate for the tiniest second to buy the Bubba-ed 25. At that price, you can't go wrong - IF everything else is OK. I would probably make a 4-inch gun if it was available to me, but a pinto would be a fun one to have, too.

The frame is worth $200 - snap it up quickly before someone changes their mind.

The customer still has it. Told the store to grab it for me.
Please tell me more RE: ALLENFRAME.

If it goes to S&W I suggest the master revolve package, unless you can do that list your self, at the very least I would have them chamfer the cylinders, and nickel the cylinder as well as the barrel. A 5 incher might be handy, but any reduction in barrel length would be interesting in my view.

Really thinking about a 5" barrel.
As far as I know, the factory doesn't shorten barrels.
This one was cut to about 3-1/2", shorter than what I'd want, especially as there's already a 3" Model 624 in the safe.

A friend of mine had them shorten a 6 1/2" 25-2 to 4".

I bought this one new in 1970 and took it to a gunsmith and had him
cut it to 4". He just about choked when I told him I wanted it cut
but he did it. He decided on his own to leave it at slightly over 4".
A reflection of the paranoia about new gun laws and barrel lengths
after 1968.

If that's what you want that is a great deal, especially since you already have the barrel

As of today, we're still searching for the preacher who brought it into the LGS wanting to sell.
It was an estate item and he was assisting the inheritors who were "wanting to get rid of a dangerous old gun before it does off and kills someone."
