craigslist 29-2
I check some different sites regularly to see if there are any guns for sale. I'd been sitting in my recliner in front of the tv all evening trying to keep from falling asleep before bedtime and when I felt more awake I looked over the local craigslist. I find that non-gun folks here tend to put their guns for sale on craigslist. Sometimes the ads get flagged, but they're usually left alone.
I saw an ad that was about an hour old with pics, for a 6 1/2" S&W 29-2, a regular Dirty Harry gun. The asking price was a very reasonable $500.00 o.b.o. The pictures showed some holster wear on the end and side of the barrel and some more on the cylinder, but it still looked pretty good. I could see that the gun had the factory targets too, so I immediately sent the seller an email with an offer of $450.00. I would have gone to $475.00 but he answered back after a while with "Deal", so I was able to buy a nice shooter.
This 44 has been a using gun but I think it will clean up nicely. It has a nice tight barrel/cylinder gap and the cylinder locks up without too much extra side to side or end to end play. The action feels smooth and nice. It was made in about 1975, according to the serial number. The seller also included his last 21 factory rounds with the deal. I'm pretty happy with it. Good buys are still out there!

I'm glad you bought it immediately instead of asking us if it was a good price.

Craigslist says you can't advertise firearms for sale and if someone post one they flag it meaning they kill the ad. I guess in some states they are looser on their enforcement.

My gosh, that CL ad would have been flagged and subsequently removed here in mere moments.
Occasionally here I'll see an ad on CL for a cleverly worded gun ad.
It will read something like:
'For Sale: an older Smith-model, Massachusetts-produced cylindrical hole-puncher currently set at .429 diameter. Relatively good shape and used on a few jobs.'
These get through as the haters don't realize what the ad is. I think it's funny.

First off to the OP, nice find at a steal price.
Secondly is the flag issue. "Flagged for removal". No guns or gun related items allowed on any other of these type web sites. At least here in the Commiewealth. I guess Alaska is a little more forgiving.

I think that he means that it would be quickly "snagged" here.

Yea, you are not supposed to sell guns on craigslist. I see one every once in a while and they get pulled.

I have scored several guns off of Craigslist over the last few years, some contact was made quickly from a standard add, one was a clever add
It said " holster for glock 26 with contents " It came with two boxes of nine the fobus holster and the model 26 for 350.00
It is one of my favorite ccw pieces...

Guns dont make it long and are flagged and removed in Central Florida but i've seen alot of them hidden and remaining active in peoples barter list. They are hard to find but you just have to dig through all the barter junk. I have never acquired one that way though.

29-5
I did snag a nice 29-5 .44 Mountain Gun on Craigslist for a good price a year or so ago. Not sure how strict they are now.

I usually don't see them on CL around here, but when searching holsters today I saw several, including a darn nice Walther PPK nazi marked with original dress holster. It was listed as Nazi items....

I advertised a case of 12 ga. target loads on CL two yrs ago and the ad made it for about 3 hrs before being flagged for removal. Ah Mn, land of liberal loonies.

This is the picture that was in the craigslist ad. The cylinder is open in this pic. I've cleaned it up since I got it home because it was kind of grungy. It would seem that it's been owned by guys who carried it and shot it, but didn't clean it very often. It turned out to be a nice looking revolver though and one that I will enjoy owning.
