Model 29–2 nickel
So my wife says next time we go on vacation I cannot stop at a gun store…..she can keep on dreaming!
We traveled almost 2900 miles and I only stopped at seven gun shops
Not a single Smith & Wesson in the first six and I was extremely disappointed and when I say no Smith and Wesson‘s I mean no Smith and Wesson revolvers
But when you walk into a gun store and get invited into the back room where there are 25+ pre-lock smith and Wesson‘s you suddenly realize you’re in heaven……
And now there are three less in that inventory now! lol
Which brings me to this Model 29–2 8 3/8 inch barrel nickel
It appears to be pretty much unfired but it is stamped in the Right hand side of the barrel and would appear to me that it would have needed to have been done before it was nickeled so I’m curious if it was a special order done through the factory I’m assuming it was a giveaway for a raffle
In case it’s hard to see in the pictures it is serial numbered
N329xxx and it says in the stamp on the barrel
Topeka gun show May 21-22 1977
Would be neat to find out a little history

That is awesome. Would love to know the history as well. Let us know what you find out. I recently purchased a 29 - 2 nickle in presentation case with nickle finish and 8 3/8 barrel. Unfired and un handled. First of my unfired revolvers purchased with no turn line.

Great 29-2, Jeep 1. I have a couple of questions. First, what was he doing with 25+ pre lock Smiths in the back room? And second, what are the other 2 you got?

I would say a small display room plus it was of part of his personal collection.
A Blue Model 29–2 8 3/8 inch barrel From 1976 with a red ramp front side. I was looking for it because of a poster that I have.
And another model 648 6 inch I guess I’m a sucker for them.

That's a really nice looking Model 29-2. I agree, does not appear to have been used or if it was, it was well cared for. As for the marking on the right side of the barrel, I can propose a possibility. Perhaps this particular Model 29 was a raffle prize at the Topeka Gun Show in 1977.

You mean they make other guns???? 
SN puts it as 1975-76 production, so that works out well for the 1977 show, but means it was ordered a pretty good while before the show, if it is a factory nickel. Maybe they did a barrel swap on an already nickeled gun off the shelf, but it would still be "original equipment" if it shipped that way. Very nice revolver; I don't suppose they'd give many of those as prizes, so maybe that is #1 of 1?
