Default Operation Pawnshop Resue

Hey All,

About six months ago I started Operation Pawnshop Rescue. The idea being is to watch local pawnshops and, as funds permit, save select S&W's from an uncertain pawnshop fate. Once they're in my possesion, I intend to do my best to restore them to their past glory. Here are the first three...hope someone can give me some manufacture dates.

The first one I picked up was a Model 66-1 S/N 96K81xx. She already has a new set of Hogue rubber grips and a custom El Paso Saddlery pancake holster. The future holds a nice set of wood grips and a polish.

These last two were both picked up this week. The first a Model 19-2 S/N KJF41xx. The prior owner had carved and sanded a beautiful set of diamond coke target grips into ruin. Today I ordered a set of Ahrends Retro Combat grips. This peach will get a cleaning, polish, and the grips when they arrive.

Finally, is a Model 5906 S/N K7108xx. As I was wanting a 9mm pistol, she is in beautiful condition and will fit the bill. This one came with two Clinton era 10-round magazines, so today, I sent away for two 15-round magazines that one of this forums members has offered to sell me.

As I get the upgrades I've ordered and have returned these beauties to their past glory I will post additional photos. And I'm still on the lookout for additional rescues... pre-1980 M-29 6.5", M-27 6.5", M-66 4", M-14 6" K-38, and a Mod 17 6" K-22 are prime candidates.

[Now I need to figure out how to get the photos to post right, ;-)]

Ya know, I think this is how Mother Teresa got started. I wouldn't be surprized if you get a Nobel prize out of this. Nice work.

I have also had the same rescue operation in progress. I need to come up with a list of donors to help fund Operation Rescue. I can find more Smith & Wessons and a Ruger or Two than I can afford to save.

I have been involved in this same type of program for quite some time now. I always try to keep at least a grand in my pocket for these "emergency" rescue adventures but lately I have been having to replenish the roll of bills a little too often.

OK Rogue12153, I did not do too good, but here is what I found in the "Book". The Model 66-1 looks like 1981, 19-2 was made between 1961-1966, could not find a KJF prefix in my book, and the 5906 was made between 1989-1999. I did not show a K prefix in my book for the 5906. Now if the K7108xx ser. number belongs to the 19-2 it would make sense and would be a 1966 production gun. It looks like all the auto pistols had 3 letters and then the number, I think the shrouded rear sight indicates a early model as Novak type sites were on the later ones. I hope this helps some and good hunting for these poor rescue projects. May you be blessed in your endeavors. Bill

You should have you own reality series. Imagine how many rescues would be possible with real funding.

I applaud you on the "Mission". Maybe if you file for a 501c3 corp. you can apply for Government grants to continue your "Mission".
