Model 10 or Model 15 and price check
I want to see if you can help me decide on which revolver I want. Its between a 10-5 and a 15-3. The prices are $340 for the model 10 and $460 for the model 15 which I think is high for the 15 because both are in about 75% condition. I originally wanted a model 10 for the price (I heard i can get a shooter for around $300) but in my area they are a lot more and there is no police trade ins online right now. Then I saw the the 15 and thought about it and what price do you think I should try to talk him down to for a good deal? Are the adj. Sights worth the extra money?
Thanks

In 75% condition, they are both way overpriced.

Thought so the model 15 is closer to 80% but still. Can't find a cheap model 10 at all. I'll keep looking. Whats a fair price on them then? And is the 15 worth paying more for if both did have good prices?
Thanks for the reply

$460 for a 95% model 15 is top end.
90% 10 should be found at less than $400.00

Western Tennessee. We have a 95% model 10 on armslist for $500-$550. He just lowered it but it's been up for a while.

To put it in perspective, I passed on a very nice (95% or so) model 15-3 this morning with rosewood presentation target stocks for $325. Lock up was super tight, too tight, but it looked like it had been shimmed. I may go back next week for another look.
He also had a 5" transitional pre-10 with diamond targets for $425.
I am just out of gun money right now.

I don't have much patience already been looking since summer for a local deal but I think I might order/buy one somewhere else. Anyone supposed to get police trade-ins soon?

Should still be there but it will be the only gun in the shop with all the semi autos gone soon we might have to mortgage our homes if the the revolvers keep rising. At least our reason for the price is because they are good/collectable guns and not because they might get banned. I wasn't into guns when all of the revolvers were cheap. When I try to look up a price it will be from a few years ago and say "that model 10 for $250 is way overpriced, a unfired one goes for $200" wish I knew what was missing.

Agreed. Both nice guns, both over priced.
I recently bought a 80% LE turn-in Mod 15 (pinned with 3T's and factory action job) for $225. It sat in the LGS case for months so it's not like I stumbled onto a deal. There just isn't a huge market for old, worn revolvers in the lowly 38 special. Even clean heavy barrel Mod 10's rarely sell for above $350 around here there days.
You should be able to expand your selection if you shop gunbroker or other online vendors. You'll have to work out the details with your local FFL but generally speaking, Figure another $55 over selling price to your hands (with no sales tax.)
Lastly, don't be afraid to expand your search to mod 13, 19, 64, 65, 66 or 67. All will look, feel and shoot similar to the two mentioned. The stainless flavors polish/clean up easy too.
p.s. try J&G sales if your looking for a LE turn in. They often have them dirt cheap. ( I've bought 64's there for less than $200.)

Just keep shopping.
The frenzy will die off eventually and it's highly unlikely that S&W revolvers will be affected - in my opinion.
+1; both those you mention are way overpriced.

To the original poster: I have a nice Model 15 heavy barrel which I would be willing to sell if you're interested. It is not pristine. It has a flaw at the very end of the barrel, a small but very visible spot, and some holster wear. I can email you highly detailed pictures if you have an interest and I will negotiate fairly. I am located Central Texas Hill Country, about 45 miles west of Austin.

I was looking at those too, but don't think I'm going to bite at that price.

You might be able to bargain the price down to a more reasonable amount if you call or go there in person. Just remember it's their asking price, not a final price.
