Never seen one. They did make the round butt in 4" for a USG agency but if anyone hears of a SB version, I would like to hear about it.

Any 2.5" square butt is a conversion (barrel swap) with almost 100% certainty.

Not that there's anything wrong with that if done right

StatesRightest,

Check the bbl length carefully! There are a very few 3" barrel M19s that have the square butt. If if has that little 1/2" more, don't let it get away.

See page 187 3rd edition of the catalog show "model 19-8 chambered in 38 Special: 2 1/2" or 4" barrel, square butt, product code 148926 special order 0055 or 0056"
I don't know exactly what this means, maybe someone does?

It would mean it was a special run in .38 special only. SB 2 1/2".
I believe I have seen a model 66 done the same way where they chambered them for .38 spl only. I will have to check the catalog.

I think the question was a more of a general "what is the norm" question, not a one-off or special order.

Of course, there is always the 1 gun made with a 5 3/16" barrel length round butt pinto with chromed hammer and trigger and 7 shot cylinder and elephant tusk ivory grips made for the CIA director's secret lover but she disappeared prior to delivery and the gun was delivered and sold in an LGS in Boise, ID.

In other words, there is no absolute certainty with S&W

Default 19-3 SB

Here's one I picked up about 5 years ago. It started out with a longer barrel, and somewhere along the way was changed out.

I really like the feel of a square butt as opposed to the round butt. They feel so much more stable in the hand. I'd gladly trade the concealability of the round butt for the stability of the square.

Couldn't agree more. The square butts are known for that as far as I have heard. My square-butt 36-1 HB just feels so 'right' when I first pick it up...

RB's are just too small for my large hand.
I've always preferred SB.

I saw that gun at the SWCA show in Boise. Sure wish I could have afforded it. I think it went to Doc44. (Maybe it will show up on a calendar)
