Default Need help with M37

Have a chance to buy a M37 Airweight but I'm having trouble dating the piece. The assembly number is 01157 and the serial number is 3J63XX. All help is greatly appreciated.

With the "floating J" serial number I would expect early to mid 70's.

First off, welcome to the forum.

That Model 37 should've shipped in 1971.

It's probably been posted about a dozen times here just this past week, but the "assembly number" was for reference during the manufacturing process only and is subsequently utterly immaterial to identifying or dating the gun

Many thanks guys. I actually joined the forum a few years ago but haven't been active for a long time so I guess the site started me over again.

I went ahead and bought the gun a few minutes ago. Paid $225 which is probably a decent deal considering I'll probably be turning it soon. Just don't need a . 38 Spcl at the moment and my gun safe is over full as it is.

Also picked up a average condition Colt Peacemaker 22 for a price so good I don't even want to comment on it. It's been a good day.

Thanks all.
DT

Sorry for the long delay HotRod. I've been trying to catch up on my gunsmithing backlog for the last month or so then the whole Bushmaster ban crops up again and folks go nuts. Sheesh!

Anyway, I plan on posting some pics soon. I cleaned her up, gave her a trial run at the range then and put her in the safe.
