1977 4 Inch K Frame with Red Translucent Sight insert? PIX of Sight Added
I don't know much about K frames and have a question. I have a very late 18-3 with 3 'Ts', with what looks to be a factory front sight as stated in the title. It's sort of pinkish red. When were these a factory option? I asume they were only available with the 3 Ts. Thanks for the help...

There's a gunsmith in Central New York, still active, who for years installed his proprietary pinkish "Lumi-Sight" in S&Ws and Colts--I believe that as part of the job he drilled shallow holes in the bottom of the dovetail and inserted some sort of luminescent paint.
I have a Model 63 which looks like his work, although it might be factory.

S&W used a bright orange insert most of the time. I have seen yellow, not sure if it was factory installed or not. Many have come loose or fallen out they are easy to replace in any color you like.

I'd bet it's not a factory job but if you like it that doesn't matter much. Those are readily replaced with the original type, I've seen insert material available at Brownells.

Two part apoxy mixed with a little orange paint, waxed popsicle stick pieces on each side of the blade as a form. I've done a couple, they look factory and last indefinatley.

I don't think that one is factory. It looks a little too large and usually the color was red.

I used to have a Gunsmith in the mid 70's add an insert to a plain sight. He used toothbrush handles and many of them were a translucent pink or orange. You picked the toothbrush and he did the install.
