Default S&W 17-4 Rear Sight Assembly

Greetings all. I have lurked on this forum for a long time and finally registered as I have been looking for a rear sight assembly for a Model 17-4. I believe it was shipped in or about 1979. The sight would have a square tang. As best I can determine I need one with the rearward mounting hole, but this is less than clear. Any leads would be appreciated.

You might try Numrich (Gun Parts Corp), and also list a "Wanted to buy" here on the Forum. The 17-4 is new enough there may be some floating around. I think any K frame rear sight of this same vintage should work, but you may have to change out the blade for correct height. I have a 17-4, so if you need any measurements PM me.

Thank you for the responses. Numrich has none. Ditto for S&W and Midsouth. Brownell's shows them as in stock for the 17-4 but I had to send it back as it was for a newer version with a rounded front on the leaf/tang. I need the squared off front. There is one mounting screw but there are at least two versions of where it is located. Rough Country makes a very nice but very, very pricey sight for the 17-4. Because of the variations in the mounting hole placement they won't drill the mounting hole, for which there is an additional charge, without being sent either a sight assembly known to fit the gun (guess that would work if I had one and wanted an upgrade) or exact measurements (can't return it if you get that wrong). The search goes on. I'll put a WTB in the classifieds.

JustFrank,

Give JackFirst.com a hit. They manufacture hard to find parts in good ole Rapid City, SD.
