S&W 64 SERIAL NO Question
The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson page 399 doesn't list the model 64 in the D Serial Prefix of models.
Is this just a misprint?
I just picked up a nice S&W model 64 pin barrel and the serial no. is
D55xxxx and was looking up the dob when i noticed this.
If this model no. was left out of the D Prefix in the book is it safe to say it was made between 1973-1974?

There are no absolutes
With S&Ws there are exceptions to every rule
With the SCSW there are typos
1973-1974 for your revovler

That's the year that serial number shows in the Catalog.
It doesn't say for the M64 in that series. The M64 is first mentioned in the next series of numbers starting with1D. That starts in 1976, but that model came out in 1970. I would assume it was just not mentioned in that series for some reason.

Yes. The Model 64 did use the D prefix early on. I have one that shipped in 1975 that has the serial number D775xxx. 1973 is a good guess for yours.
